OneNote Linked Notes Window is docking on top of screen not the side

BTW: Did you notice the apologies from MS and the deletion of the advice you were the victim of ?

Some further comments:

"Personal (Web)" is a generated and fixed name on Skydrive. The app needs it.

Never use Dropbox for synching of Onenote notebooks. They use different and colliding synch mechanisms. Said that I am a convinced Dropbox user too, for any other file type.

Onenote makes backups automatically which are always local at any computer where the Onenote desktop SW is installed. For open notebooks only.

Never close a notebook because this deletes its copy within the cache.

* The only way that I could delete the OneNote_DeletedPages.one "page" was with Win Explorer.

* I started over with the Notebook naming and now my notebook (remember, I am a brand new user) was named Personal (Web) and now it is named Notebook 2011 (SkyDrive) and it is syncing successfully (though different from before) now. 

FWIW, I found out about OneNote from the Apple App Store or a post that pointed me there. I downloaded the iPad app and installed it. I already had a live.com account but wasn't using SkyDrive because I am a DropBox user. The iPad OneNote app apparently set up my initial notebook and named it Personal (Web). I do not recall entering that name though it is possible that I did.  Then I set up my laptop to use the folder in the cloud... that seemed to be easy. On Monday, I set up my office machine and that was also easy.  I was clueless as to where the files/notebooks were being stored but I didn't care as long as they were safe.  I can see now that they are more susceptible to error than I thought so care will be taken to be sure that I have a backup that can be recovered.  I think OneNote does that automagically but I need to research that a bit more.

I'm done now and will crawl back in my hole; hopefully never to be heard from again here on this forum. It was a pleasure to have you help me and I'll be happy to buy you a cup of coffee if you're ever in Albuquerque!

There is a new tab with a heading called 'Deleted Pages'. This wasn't there before and I can't seem to remove it via OneNote. There is a file in the folder called: OneNote_DeletedPages.one  Would it be OK to use Win Explorer to delete that file?

 

Also, this notebook doesn't seem to be sync'ing with the SkyDrive because my iPad is not getting the changes that I have made to notes after you had me restore the files from the .ZIP  Any thoughts on this?

Deleted Pages

If you don't need them delete them. It should be possible by right clicking the section tab, but otherwise you can delete it with explorer.

Not synching

In reality it synchs, to your local files (each notebook always exists in two entities: the "original" anywhere on the planet, on the local file system, on a network share, on Skydrive; and a copy as part of the cache, always local for guaranteed access) . That's the standard case of notebook storage. To synch again to your iPad your notebook must be moved again to Skydrive.

It looks like you named your notebook Personal (Web) or is that now the folder that contains the folder of the notebook ?

Your notebook shouldn't be called Personal (Web) because that could collide with the folder names on Skydrive.

BTW:

You have to delete your "old" notebook on Skydrive before moving it again.

Ok, let's go ...

Then right click the notebook (folder) and "Open as Notebook in Onenote". Onenote will open the notebook = open all section files and copy the content to your cache. That's all.

Using your instructions I was able to recover the notebook on my main workstation. However, I don't have the "Open as Notebook in OneNote" option on Windows Explorer. OneNote is associated with those file types though and I opened OneNote, went through the file open dialog, browsed to the new folder "Personal (Web)" and opened the notes. Everything looks pretty good.
