Am I hacked? (received an email from my own emailaddress)

Hi,

I received an email presumably send from my own emailaccount, subject 'You've been hacked' starting with

'I want to inform you about a very bad situation for you. However, you can benefit from it, if you will act wisеly. Have you heard of Pegasus? This is a spyware program that installs on computers and smartphones and allows hackers to monitor the activity of device owners. It provides access to your webcam, messengers, emails, call records, etc. It works well on Android, iOS, macOS and Windows. I guess, you already figured out where I’m getting at.'

Etc.

So the content of the email doesn't worry me, but what I can't understand is why the e-mail is send from my account. Or why it looks like it is send from my account. It doesn't show any other address.

When I check Source of the message, the following pops up, but this to me is jibberisch... Can anyone explain to me why it looks like I send this to myself and if I indeed been hacked or not?

Thank you!

So my question is... if so many people have received this email. Why hasnt microsoft addressed it? Maybe it's time to move to GMAIL.

I've got exaaactly the same email this morning!

    Presumably, from my own account.

Showed up straight away in the spam folder.

Seems to be an automated (and widespread) blackmail attempt.

At my age, not only is it very unlikely that I do "perverted things" in front of "questionable webpages", I don't even have a web cam!!

    XD

I agree, it looks more like a Microsoft security problem, ever since so many Hotmail accounts are involved, and have been (allegedly) hacked.

Or, maybe, somebody just bought a couple of millions of Hotmail addresses in the dark web and is looking forward to make his/her investment profitable.

I would like to believe it's the Russian or the North Korean secret services, desperate to get foreign currencies to finance their upcoming, gloomy reigns of terror for human kind.

Sounds more romantic than just a poor Pakistani immigrant in an obscure cyber-café in Dakhla, or a ruthless 14-year old scoundrel in a suburb in the British Midlands.

Nonetheless, I've changed my password, of course.

Hope everything gets fixed anytime soon!

I started to believe after the second time this happened to me in few months to stop at this point using hotmail especially I am very careful and cautious about hen it comes to cybersecurity.

Looks like Microsoft today is no more giving us the level of security we think especially hackers started to use AI and Microsoft seems a bit behind that concerning security.

Don't even worry for a second, I just got it today on my dummy account, seems only @live.com domain is affected.

How do I know it's fake? Well first, no one but me ever connected into my account at the time it got sent to my junk folder. So it made me laugh so much & doesn't even need to go further... But... The mail is a copypasta, same to everyone, obviously how could someone have video footage of me jerking when I don't even own a camera 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 do I need to go further? Yah sure why not, how could someone could have data on me when I'm an actual ghost on the internet? 🤣 if the dude had anything on me he wouldn't be trying his life so hard with fail attempt to log in an actually unused email 😂😂😂
