Email from Microsoft titled "Action Needed – You may lose access to some of your third-party mail and calendar apps" Is this a scam?

The sender is "******@communication.microsoft.com"

Its telling us that "Microsoft will no longer support the use of third-party email and calendar apps which ask you to sign in with only your Microsoft Account username and password. To keep you safe you will need to use a mail or calendar app which supports Microsoft’s modern authentication methods."

I access hotmail email accounts from a MacbookAir laptop using the Apple email app. Also access from an iPhone 11.

It seems legit. Can anyone confirm if it is?

    I have a desktop Mac, but an older OS that won't support the new Outlook download. Could you clarify the above statement about alternate ways to access email? Meaning, instead of the mail icon that came with my computer, can I go to a web browser to find Outlook.com, sign into my Microsoft account, and access email that way? Thank you for any help you can offer.

    I DO NOT work for Microsoft, I am a user, just like you, and I volunteer in this forum. Do you own a PC or a Mac? Please post a picture of the icon you click to get your email. Thanks.

    I have never owned a Mac device. I'm not 100% sure but as far as I understand, Mac Mail (built-in app) connects through POP/IMAP. Microsoft is removing POP/IMAP access to their mail servers so I'm guessing your Mac Mail can no longer connect to it after Sep 2024. Your option is to use a web browser or other mail client like the free Outlook that many users hate: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/microsoft-outlook/id985367838?mt=12&culture=en-us&country=us

    Of course I could be entirely wrong about Mac Mail capability.

    I'm 73 years old, if that's any consolation... What email clients do you have and use? Please list ALL of them, what version they are, what platform they are installed on, and what protocol (POP, IMAP, or Exchange Server) each uses so we can tell you which ones will work without any changes, which ones will need attention, and what specific attention each of these will need. Thanks!!

    what about those of us who are using older microsoft products such as Microsoft Office Outlook 2007? are we going to be forced into buying a new version of the software so that microsoft can stick it to us for more money? will there be a plugin, update, or some other solution available, or is microsoft going to just piss us off yet again?
