High CPU usage when typing a message in Outlook

OS: Win 11 Pro

Office: 2016 Pro

Hi everyone,

CPU activity goes to 16-22% when typing a message in Outlook 2016 and returns to 1 % when typing stops.

Deactivating (all) add-ins and Graphic acceleration did not solve the issue.

Deactivating spell check options did not cure the problem either.

The problem seems to be specific to Win 11 and does not occur on Win 10 OS.

If anyone has any suggestion on how to solve this issue...

    I'm not aware of way to open a formal complaint but I certainly support the idea. This is beyond annoying.

    We have been discussing this problem since November last year.

    Many users have experienced the same issue; Yet, Microsoft probably believes that ignoring the issue will make it go away by itself...
    To this day, none of the subsequent Office or Win 11 updates have cured the issue.
    To the contrary: at present the CPU goes up sporadically (triggering the fan), as soon as Outlook is started (even though no typing is done). So, the situation has gone from bad to worse.
    In view of the history created by this thread, it may be time to file a formal complaint to Microsoft.

    I don't know it it's just a coincidence, but I currently also have massive GPU (not CPU) usage from Desktop Window Manager parallel to using Outlook. So now Outlook as well as DWM make my system very slow nearly always when I work something.

    By the way, this bug also regularly again appears. Not every day, but sometimes. As soon as I quit and restart Outlook, the problem has gone.

    Another reason for Thunderbird instead of really buggy and supportless Outlook?

    I have the same problem and tried all of the listed solutions. Nothing helped. I'm using 365 on a brand new computer using Outlook version 2501 build 18429.20114. The CPU is a Intel Core i714700F, 20 cores.

    Tried the fixes provided in Palcouk's thread. No luck.

    We have been barking over that bone since November last year, yet Microsoft still ignores the issue.

    Indeed, the solution may be leaving all Microsoft products once and for all. Market defective products and having users pay for fixes appears to be the company's business model.

    Again, the quick (and dirty) fix is to type the messages in the notepad, then copy it across into Outlook.
    Pretty stupid, I agree, but it will prevent your PC from going red hot, and draining the batteries on the blink of an eye.
