In the past few days, I've noticed if I tick emails in the Junk folder to "Report Phishing", they no longer go to the deleted folder. They disappear momentarily and I get the "nothing in junk icon, etc. but, if I go to the inbox and back to the Junk folder, those emails are still there in the Junk folder.

I just had a chat with a Microsoft rep (an ambassador) and supposedly this is a new feature where we no longer have to report junk mail as phishing because it automatically does it and will delete those emails automatically in 10 days.

I asked where is the official notice about this from Microsoft. He said this was changed about a month ago, but it's official yet, therefore there is no notice about it.

Did anyone else get this response?

Issue still persists for me on outlook.com this morning

It simply stopped working a couple of days ago

    12/04/2024: issue still persists!

think at this point we can guess microsoft probably fired the team who manages this to make more $$$ and no one noticed this issue

this is like the minecraft issues that lasted a week where we could not access the realm we pay for every month (never got a refund by the way)

micro$oft has become the next ibm, they only care about business and governement

i am slowly moving everything out of their ecosystem as their products are simply not good anymore, or just not reliable

its a sad to see what microsoft has become since the new management took over, they make money that they do but thats about it...

    Hello,

Thank you for the additional information. Since you're using the web version of Microsoft Outlook (Outlook.live.com), and refreshing the page or clearing the cache hasn't resolved the issue, here are a few more steps you can try:

    1. **Use a Different Browser**: Sometimes, browser-specific issues can cause unexpected behavior. Try accessing your Outlook account from a different web browser to see if the issue persists.
    2. **Disable Browser Extensions/Add-Ons**: Browser extensions, particularly those related to security or privacy, can sometimes interfere with webmail functions. Try disabling these extensions or use an incognito/private browsing window to see if the issue is resolved.
    3. **Check Email Rules**: In Outlook.live.com, check if any rules have been set up that might be affecting the behavior of reported emails. Go to Settings > View all Outlook settings > Mail > Rules and review any existing rules.
    4. **Reset Outlook Settings**: Sometimes, resetting Outlook to its default settings can resolve unusual behaviors. Be cautious with this step, as it might change some of your personalized settings.
    5. **Report to Microsoft Support**: Since this issue is specific to the web version of Outlook, consider using the support or feedback options within Outlook.live.com to report this behavior. Microsoft's team may offer a solution or investigate if it's a broader issue affecting other users.
    6. **Check for Service Outages**: Occasionally, Microsoft services experience outages or bugs. Check the Microsoft 365 Service Health](https://status.office.com/%29) page to see if there are any known issues with Outlook.
    7. **Manual Deletion as a Temporary Measure**: Until the issue is resolved, you might need to manually delete these emails after reporting them as phishing. While not ideal, this ensures your Junk folder doesn’t get cluttered.
    8. **Keep an Eye on Updates**: Even though you're using the web version of Outlook, Microsoft regularly updates and improves its online services. The issue might get resolved with a future update.

Remember, dealing with email clients can sometimes involve quirks and behaviors that are specific to the platform and its current version. Keeping your browser updated and occasionally checking back with support forums for any updates or new solutions can also be helpful.

    Best Regards, Saurabh

    Hello,

The behavior you're experiencing with the "Report Phishing" function not moving emails to the Deleted folder could be the result of a few different things. It could be a temporary glitch, a change in how the email service handles reported phishing attempts, or an issue with the syncing process if you're using an email client.

Here’s what you can try to resolve the issue:

Refresh: Simple as it sounds, sometimes just refreshing the page or restarting the email client can clear up a temporary hiccup.

Update: If you're using an email client, make sure it’s updated to the latest version. Outdated software can lead to unexpected behaviors.

Check Settings: Look through your email settings or preferences. It's possible that an update or change in policy may have altered where reported emails go.

Clear Cache: If you're using a web-based email service, clear your browser's cache and cookies. If it's an app, clear the app's cache.

Re-sync: If you’re using an email client, try re-syncing your mailboxes. This can often fix issues with folders not updating correctly.

Check with Provider: If the problem persists, it might be worth checking with your email service provider to see if they’ve made changes to the phishing report process.

Use Webmail: Try using the webmail interface directly to see if the problem is with the email client or the email service itself.

Support Forums: Visit the support forums for your email service to see if others are experiencing the same problem and if a solution has been posted.

Contact Support: As a last resort, you might want to contact customer support for your email service to report the issue and seek further assistance.

Remember, phishing emails are a security risk, so even if they don’t move to the Deleted folder, it's good that you're reporting them. Your email service provider uses such reports to improve their filtering and security measures.

    Best Regards, Saurabh
