Email on Gmail account are not getting marked as read

I was happily using older version of Outlook on windows but a popup made to switch to latest version (pre) of Outlook or mail not sure what its called now.

I am able to receive and send emails using outlook flawlessly however the issue is these emails are not getting marked as read, temporary its read but very soon again shows as unread. I checked on web Gmail as well it shows as unread. I dont think this could be sync issue because I receive emails on time.

What is going on any idea?

    Hello everyone,

    I've also been grappling with this issue for way too long and have exhausted every option. I decided to take a different approach. I removed my Gmail account from my Outlook app on my iOS device. Within a minute, I regained the ability to flag messages, mark them as read, or observe messages as read after they appeared in the preview pane. I encourage others to give this solution a try and see if it works for them.

    I've actually had mailbird since 2014, stopped using it after a while :S

    Yup. I'm one that switched to Mailbird, and couldn't be happier. It 100% works right out of the box.

    Here we are in 2024 and the bug is still present. The "new Outlook" team is failing across the board. With their business version of Outlook, their flagship email product, there is also a "new Outlook" version that you can install that is also riddled with bugs, missing critical business features, and as such is unusable. They need to immediately disable the prompts for these "new" products so users stop getting pushed into them, and the team for this product needs to be fired so a new team that knows what it's doing can be brought in.

    I have tested and agree with others in this thread, just ditch this and go to Mailbird. Make sure to use the version from their website and not the Windows Store.

    I have the issue on Win 11, regardless of the settings discussed here, no messages get marked as read on the server. Only when I change the read/unread state manually via the toolbar button, it usually does sync after a while.
