I was happily using older version of Outlook on windows but a popup made to switch to latest version (pre) of Outlook or mail not sure what its called now.
I am able to receive and send emails using outlook flawlessly however the issue is these emails are not getting marked as read, temporary its read but very soon again shows as unread. I checked on web Gmail as well it shows as unread. I dont think this could be sync issue because I receive emails on time.
What is going on any idea?

I've had Focused Inbox turned off for months - ever since first using New Outlook and the problem has always remained for me.
Don't want to jinx it but appears to have started working as of today...

Seems to have solved it for me as well. Removed my mail from the Apple mail app on my iPhone, and I started using the outlook app on my iPhone as well..
You may be correct, but there are options other than Microsoft. I gave up on any MS email client when this debacle started months ago. It's nice to not be fretting about email anymore.
The single most important things for all individuals in the free world are business communications, business scheduling and timely notification. Without those capabilities, there's no need for anything else. Everything else on a PC is irrelevant. Without those capabilities Windows serves no fundamental purpose for it's customers. Why is Microsoft pushing an unfinished product that takes care of these essential tasks to their customers? Would Microsoft like the economy to collapse? That's not an overstatement.
I believe I found the solution to this problem.
The problem is with the way Microsoft deals with Focused inbox.
Goto Settings > Mail > Layout > Focused Inbox select "Don't sort my messages".
I have 3 emails with the new Outlook application. Two of the emails had the "Don't sort my messages" while one email had the "Sort messages into Focused and Other". The one email that had the sorting option enabled faced the problem, while the other two did not. I checked this by going to the web version of GMAIL of all three emails and doing a mark as read back and forth.
The problem seems to have been fixed for me for the past 3 days. However, I am going to keep an eye on the situation
