I was happily using older version of Outlook on windows but a popup made to switch to latest version (pre) of Outlook or mail not sure what its called now.
I am able to receive and send emails using outlook flawlessly however the issue is these emails are not getting marked as read, temporary its read but very soon again shows as unread. I checked on web Gmail as well it shows as unread. I dont think this could be sync issue because I receive emails on time.
What is going on any idea?

Exactly same for me, I struggled a lot to making this outlook app work for me then I switched to thunderbird, works very well for me.
Nope, they're alive and well. I didn't let them update me to version 3, so my lifetime sub is running perfectly. Well worth the $100 to be rid of the sh)t show that is windows mail or the "new" outlook. LOL I'm not gonna lie, and the way Maibird handled the upgrade was pretty underhanded. They should have been more transparent about it. The info was there, you just had to read a little, rather than check the agree box blindly, which is what they were counting on. That's where I learned to uncheck the "update automatically" box.
They have a free version as well, with restrictions of course. There is no subscription, and it works flawlessly with Exchange and Yahoo. The interface is simple and clean and extremely customizable. Also, MS is STILL having issues with Yahoo email which has been going on ever since they dumped Windows Live Mail, which was the last "free" email client MS had that actually worked. Yahoo and MS have been playing cat and mouse with email since then, and it continues to this day. That's been my main issue with the current MS email clients.
Perhaps in a few years once MS finally has everything sorted out, I may come back, but like the abysmal "Your Phone" app, and their browser there are better and more robust options available (Google Messages and Chrome of course).
I LOVE the Surface hardware though, so MS got something right over the last few years. Good luck battling with the MS email client.

That ship has sailed long ago for me. I've been a very happy Mailbird user for 7-8 months now. MS did me a huge favor by dragging their heels on this or else I never would have known about Mailbird.
So it does. It is working for GMail and IMAP now in my case, using the same version you've noted. Nearly a year to fix... "quick"!
