Stop automatically installing the new Outlook

with my hack, I occasionally had windows update re-install outlook...but I think I got it working.

In my original post I removed all permissions of the "fake" outlook dir. But instead of that try changing all permissions from an "allow" entry to a "deny" entry. So...Keep all permission entries just change the type. This involves:

1. Uninstall Outlook
2. in security properties advanced tab of C:\Program Files\WindowsApps , take ownership
3. in the WindowsApp dir, create dir Microsoft.OutlookForWindows_1.2024.925.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe
4. in security properties advanced tab of the fake outlook dir, remove inheritance
5. in security properties advanced tab of the fake outlook dir, edit each permission entry. change "type" from allow to deny

Some time after that change, I noticed windows update downloaded outlook, but didn't/couldn't install it.

I have the same problem. I have tried numerous ways to avoid it. Microsoft says you can use both the old and new one, but they make an allegory. I want to use Windows Mail app instead of outlook (new) but Microsoft installs new one as you double click on mail icon. They changed the way of mail app works to install new one. the outlook (new) sucks because there are too many bugs.

They are forcing new one nearly a year and they cant solve the bugs yet.

new one cannot search all the inbox items. I have more than 20000 mails and it searches only latest 100 mails,

new one cannot show images unless it is in inbox

some folders and mails are lost

it's an edge tab instead of a mail app.

Why is Microsoft forcing us to use Microsoft edge instead of a useful mail app.

I can't work offline with new edge looking outlook (new) app.

I think it's time to bury outlook in depth of internet history.

I will be changing my mail app soon out of MS.

Once this pc dies so will windows for me. It always seems that ms always puts out a good product then follows that product by forcing you into a terrible product until people complain. This time it seems that they are not and will not listen to their customers. I am going to buy a used pc and try Linux. I had used it many years ago and it was ok, but windows was more familiar, so I stuck with windows. Not the case anymore. It appears Linux is much more user friendly now, and windows is less user friendly, and intrusive. They are trying to act like Chrome OS or Apple. Obviously they did not learn from the past when they tried to compete with Android. Remember windows phone . A complete and utter failure. They will run this company into the ground. It really is a shame. MS is proof that overly educated people are not necessarily smart.

I was facing the same issue with the New Outlook being forced upon me, and I found nothing seemed to work long-term. I also prefer the old Mail app for its 'Focused' and 'Other' sorting features.

To tackle this, I wrote a Python script that automatically uninstalls New Outlook anytime the Mail app is launched or closed, and it even sends uninstall requests at adjustable intervals while the Mail app is open.
