New Outlook Not Syncing Read Status for Gmail

Hi, I'm running the new version of Outlook on Windows 11, and have connected to both my Uni (O365) and Gmail (Microsoft Cloud). O365 works fine, but the Gmail account doesn't sync read status back to gmail. I.e. outlook gets the correct read status from Gmail, and it syncs things like starring/flagging emails back to Gmail. But although I can mark things as read in Outlook, that status never syncs back to Gmail. The same is true on 3 different PCs, so it's not peculiar to one particular computer.

Any ideas?

    I wish that Microsoft would at least acknowledge that this is a problem. I've been trying to use this app and providing feedback to Microsoft, as they've requested, but they never acknowledge my contribution. Seems that I'm wasting my time.

    While working as a software engineer (now retired), I suggested to the marketing people that we provide a list of known problems to our customers. They all laughed at me, "We can tell that you've never worked in marketing."

    I am also in software engineering. Maybe MS does not want to support non-Exchange mail with this new Outlook. Is this a ground for anti-trust concern?

    I prefer the Mail/Calendar/People apps. I like their simplicity and proper functioning. Very sad that Microsoft is replacing them with something that doesn't work as well but simply looks different. I'm glad that none of my employers ever asked me to do that.

    If the new Outlook is not fixed before it permanently replaces Mail, I will have to find an alternative mail client.

    Does anyone have any recommendations?

    Mozilla Thunderbird. Email, Calendar, Address Book, etc., all appear as tabs, which is very nice.

    You need to install two extensions to use it with an Exchange server: Provider for Exchange ActiveSync, and TbSync. And you need to sync your calendar and contacts manually by clicking on a button in lower right corner. It's simpler than the Outlooks, but it works better for me. My only hesitation is that they do not yet have an Android version, so I have to use Outlook on my phone. Mozilla says they are working on an Android version. I also like the fact that Thunderbird is open source.
