New Outlook Not Syncing Read Status for Gmail

Hi, I'm running the new version of Outlook on Windows 11, and have connected to both my Uni (O365) and Gmail (Microsoft Cloud). O365 works fine, but the Gmail account doesn't sync read status back to gmail. I.e. outlook gets the correct read status from Gmail, and it syncs things like starring/flagging emails back to Gmail. But although I can mark things as read in Outlook, that status never syncs back to Gmail. The same is true on 3 different PCs, so it's not peculiar to one particular computer.

Any ideas?

This issue is a deal-breaker for me adopting the new Outlook for Windows. I will stick with Thunderbird.

I'm having the same issue. Seems like no solution in sight and I have not seen anyone from Microsoft actually commenting that they are working towards a fix on this.

I'm having the same issue. Seems like no solution in sight and I have not seen anyone from Microsoft actually commenting that they are working towards a fix on this.

From the 9/18/1976 episode of Saturday Night Live, Ernestine (Lily Tomlin) says, "You see, this phone system consists of a multibillion-dollar matrix of space age technology that is so sophisticated even we can’t handle it. But that’s your problem, isn’t it? So, the next time you complain about your phone service, why don’t you try using two Dixie cups with a string? We don’t care. We don’t have to. We’re the Phone Company."

History tends to repeat itself. The verbs remain the same, only the nouns change.

BTW, I really do want to use New Outlook. The user interface is much like the Outlook I use on my Android phone and the web version of Outlook. I prefer those to gmail's user interface. But I need a client that works with both outlook.com and gmail.
