New Outlook Not Syncing Read Status for Gmail

Hi, I'm running the new version of Outlook on Windows 11, and have connected to both my Uni (O365) and Gmail (Microsoft Cloud). O365 works fine, but the Gmail account doesn't sync read status back to gmail. I.e. outlook gets the correct read status from Gmail, and it syncs things like starring/flagging emails back to Gmail. But although I can mark things as read in Outlook, that status never syncs back to Gmail. The same is true on 3 different PCs, so it's not peculiar to one particular computer.

Any ideas?

    Hello,

I have confirmed with the Microsoft team that the new Outlook has sync issues. They will be rolling out a fix, but the ETA is currently unknown. We need to either wait for the update or switch back to the old Outlook in the meantime.

I think that Microsoft is now an AI company. My guess is that they used AI to generate the code to fix this problem. The goal they give to their AI engine is to maximize company profits. The AI result was a nop. :-(

BTW, I'm a software engineer. This really is an easy problem to fix. All other email clients do this very simple task very nicely. Somebody, or AI, made a mistake when they added the capability to add gmail and yahoo accounts. I remember a time when my students (I was a computer science professor for 23 years) wanted to work for Microsoft because they hired only the best.
