New Outlook Not Syncing Read Status for Gmail

Hi, I'm running the new version of Outlook on Windows 11, and have connected to both my Uni (O365) and Gmail (Microsoft Cloud). O365 works fine, but the Gmail account doesn't sync read status back to gmail. I.e. outlook gets the correct read status from Gmail, and it syncs things like starring/flagging emails back to Gmail. But although I can mark things as read in Outlook, that status never syncs back to Gmail. The same is true on 3 different PCs, so it's not peculiar to one particular computer.

Any ideas?

Does it reflect read/unread status? For example, if you read e-mails from a GMail client (like the web site or phone app), do these show as "read" in Outlook? Likewise, if you read message in Outlook, do they show up as "read" in GMail?

Yes, it is now syncing read/unread email status between Gmail and the new Outlook, both ways, whether done in Outlook or Gmail.

Well that didn't last long. An update to my earlier post, shortly after the Outlook-Gmail status started working properly, my Outlook has now stopped syncing read/unread status, but only one way. When I make an email read or unread in Outlook, it does not change the status in Gmail (when I check it on Gmail web client or on the phone app), BUT when I make an email read/unread in Gmail (web or phone), it does update that email message's status in Outlook.

Are Microsoft/Outlook programmers really this incompetent or is this some exceptionally difficult issue to resolve between these two major email clients and/or the email protocols? It is mind-boggling whatever may be the case.

Depending on which email provider you use, you may be able to set up rules/filters directly with them. I don't know if New Outlook will map those folders.

Glad to hear that the syncing of read status appears to be working. The other problem that I had with New Outlook was that it did not allow setting up rules to direct email to folders other than the inbox. Does anyone know if this has been implemented now?

It seems to work now, but for some weeks it have been working on and off. Time will show if this program is stable when it comes to this function.

If I have not closed the program off and reactivate my laptop after sleep, it does not update before I close the program and start it again. Thunderbird does not need to be closed and restarted after sleep to update mails. It's syncing during a work session and the machine is running, but have a problem after hibernation.
