New Outlook Not Syncing Read Status for Gmail

Hi, I'm running the new version of Outlook on Windows 11, and have connected to both my Uni (O365) and Gmail (Microsoft Cloud). O365 works fine, but the Gmail account doesn't sync read status back to gmail. I.e. outlook gets the correct read status from Gmail, and it syncs things like starring/flagging emails back to Gmail. But although I can mark things as read in Outlook, that status never syncs back to Gmail. The same is true on 3 different PCs, so it's not peculiar to one particular computer.

Any ideas?

    It's infuriating. I have never obtained a relevant answer for any question on here. Microsoft has a "road map" for new features that customers will never use yet the basic/ essential functionality of any email app such as marking an email as read or showing notifications when it clearly says in settings "show notifications when Outlook is closed" and it does not...they don't those admit to those bugs, don't prioritizes them and from my experience 3 years could go by and none of it gets addressed. Don't waste your breath (or your valuable time) people.

    I disagree. This was a workaround, not a solution. The issue would need to be resolved in a working manor to be a solution. I know, word semantics but still.

    It’s hard to believe that there hasn’t been an actual resolution to this issue.

    I agree with Ritchie Scott on both counts. One would think that the most valuable company on Earth could fix this problem. This isn't a difficult problem to solve.

    I have the same problem. I left Gmail because of issues and went to Outlook because I trust Microsoft. So far a bad decision. I wish MS would step up and offer real help instead of expecting clients to solve these issues when there is no solution.

    A solution to the syncing issue was given on the 5th page of this thread by Bob Plantz: select two or more messages, right-click and mark them as unread, then right-click on them and mark them as read. A tad clumsy, but it did seem to work.

    Another related problem with New Outlook is that it currently does not support setting up rules to manage mail from Gmail and other third party accounts. That was enough to send me back to Old Outlook.
