This account is not supported in Outlook for Windows due to the license provided by your work or school

I'm not able to add my work 365 basic account in this new Outlook anymore. I get this error: "This account is not supported in Outlook for Windows due to the license provided by your work or school. Try to login with another account or go to Outlook on the web."

This is ridiculous that I'm able to add my personal Gmail, my personal Outlook email, but can't add my work account which my company pays money for. Now you want to charge us more by upgrading from basic to standard to able to use your new Outlook I see. I also noticed ads right in my Inbox in this new Outlook. Seriously? Ads too now? Well, it seems like you're very desperate lately dear Microsoft and using such enforcing brute tactics on us - users won't do good for you. It will have opposite effect in fact: Now I will tell my IT boss to switch to Google instead. And guess what? I won't be the only one doing this. You know what's your problem, Microsoft? You never listen and you never care about us. You just do what you want to do and it's all about squizzing money out of us while giving us worst products compared to other companies.

P.S. By the way, your new Outlook sucks and everything you give us lately sucks too.

Fixed for 1 person isn't fixed for everyone. This is not solved.

This should not be marked as the answer.

Still have paying M365 customers unable to use the new Outlook which is advertised as free.

https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/outlook-for-windows/9NRX63209R7B?hl=en-us&gl=US Guys, look at the rating and reviews. All people are hating this new Outlook specifically because of this license BS. Good! More negative feedback to it, please!

    please confirm the following:

    1. I have Office Business premium and I am paying for all the desktop apps (including outlook).
    2. because I have a paid Outlook account I can add my free gmail account - even though it (GMAIL) does not include the desktop apps.
    3. but I CAN'T add any of my other MSFT Business Basic accounts (that I also pay for, but that does not include outlook)?

Sounds like it is better to replace paid for "MSFT Business Basic accounts" with free gmail accounts if I want to use the new outlook for multiple email accounts? or am I missing something here?

This actually is bad. Now I have to keep on using the old version to have both my Exchange accounts in there (One with E5 and other with Basic License)

    Hello dean03032,

Thank you for your quick and kind response.

In this situation, please check what license does the affected account assigned? May I please confirm if it is Exchange online plan 2 or M365 Business basic? If the affected mailbox is assigned Microsoft 365 business basic only, this license plan doesn't include desktop apps, so it can only access the mailbox from Outlook on the web (https://Outlook.office.com).

Hope this is helpful, and please feel free to get back to us if you have further concerns,

    Regards,

    Microsoft Community
