I'm not able to add my work 365 basic account in this new Outlook anymore. I get this error: "This account is not supported in Outlook for Windows due to the license provided by your work or school. Try to login with another account or go to Outlook on the web."
This is ridiculous that I'm able to add my personal Gmail, my personal Outlook email, but can't add my work account which my company pays money for. Now you want to charge us more by upgrading from basic to standard to able to use your new Outlook I see. I also noticed ads right in my Inbox in this new Outlook. Seriously? Ads too now? Well, it seems like you're very desperate lately dear Microsoft and using such enforcing brute tactics on us - users won't do good for you. It will have opposite effect in fact: Now I will tell my IT boss to switch to Google instead. And guess what? I won't be the only one doing this. You know what's your problem, Microsoft? You never listen and you never care about us. You just do what you want to do and it's all about squizzing money out of us while giving us worst products compared to other companies.
P.S. By the way, your new Outlook sucks and everything you give us lately sucks too.

I have the same issue and was able to use the new Outlook until recently with new computers I set up. Currently it works on the existing one I set up in October 2023 but does not work now on any more computers so they must have changed this.
Also if you are coming from the Windows Mail client then after signing in it prompts you to switch to the new Outlook client which if you say yes to you then have no working email client which is far from ideal. The same happens if you are using Windows Mail and press to try the new Outlook which leaves you without any Outlook so this process has not been very well thought through.
Does this mean Microsoft are removing the free email client from Windows and offering only one you must pay for now?
Also if you have purchased Office 365 as a standalone product you are also stuck without a working email client if you switch as it seems it requires the licence to be tied to the Office 365 account.
This seems a mess.
Also whilst I like the new email client overall it has some significant usability bugs such as the right-click menu that remains on the screen obscuring the view and after you have a few in the way you must restart the application.
Agreed!
I will not use the "new" Outlook (which is terrible) until MS fixes all these issues. MS has made some seriously bad programming decisions in Outlook that need to be fixed ASAP.
If it is a shared mailbox make sure the user has full access delegate permissions via Admin Portal or Exchange and right click the primary account in New Outlook and click add Shared Mailbox. Relaunch and they should be under the Shared with you folder.
If the account is unique:
Make sure the user has full access delegate permissions via Admin Portal or Exchange. Log into the account through portal.office.com (the one that you are getting the error trying to add), launch the web version of Outlook, and then try adding account via the Add Account button on New Outlook. If it doesn't work, probably need to upgrade the license?
have the same issue!!
