This account is not supported in Outlook for Windows due to the license provided by your work or school

Such a discouragement!!!

I'm not able to add my work 365 basic account in this new Outlook anymore. I get this error: "This account is not supported in Outlook for Windows due to the license provided by your work or school. Try to login with another account or go to Outlook on the web."

This is ridiculous that I'm able to add my personal Gmail, my personal Outlook email, but can't add my work account which my company pays money for. Now you want to charge us more by upgrading from basic to standard to able to use your new Outlook I see. I also noticed ads right in my Inbox in this new Outlook. Seriously? Ads too now? Well, it seems like you're very desperate lately dear Microsoft and using such enforcing brute tactics on us - users won't do good for you. It will have opposite effect in fact: Now I will tell my IT boss to switch to Google instead. And guess what? I won't be the only one doing this. You know what's your problem, Microsoft? You never listen and you never care about us. You just do what you want to do and it's all about squizzing money out of us while giving us worst products compared to other companies.

P.S. By the way, your new Outlook sucks and everything you give us lately sucks too.

I completely understand your point! Its like reading my post before reply. Unfortunately, everybody is moving to pay-per-use even more now after COVID. Ive been a Windows, Ubuntu, Redhat user for over 20 years now and this is by far a complete bluff. Probably open office will work much better. Outlook 2013,2016 used to work so well.

Well, the MS website says clearly that the old Outlook will be available throughout 2024.

Thank goodness, that gives me a full year to move my mail domain, calendar, contacts, CRM system, and all our business internal shared document stores over to Google.

Let me get this straight:

• My Office 365 Business Basic account - which we pay for annually - will allow me to use mail apps on iOS, Android, and literally every email platform EXCEPT their flagship mail client Outlook for Windows
• The Outlook for Windows app which is provided "free" will work with EVERY type of email account such as free accounts from other providers like Google Mail, EXCEPT for the Microsoft paid subscription-based mail service they provide?

Just wow. I have no words.

10 years ago, email was democratised. It was a form of communication based on common, open protocols.

Microsoft are now battening down the hatches on email as a form of general communication STARTING with their own customers?

I am speechless at this point.

Thanks. I've actually managed to revert back to the old outlook by taking my system back to a prior restore point and am running both emails through it again. Not sure how long they will allow that to remain a stable option, i will just stay with it as long as it works. In the interim I am researching other options to the Office apps. I work on a PC primarily with Adobe design programs so still need them for the actual system. Whether or not i appreciate their updates unfortunately becomes irrelevant.

I just installed Office 365 and found a way around this by not clicking the Outlook(NEW) icon, and running the old Outlook that's still installed.

I clicked the old Outlook icon which is next to the new one.
