I'm not able to add my work 365 basic account in this new Outlook anymore. I get this error: "This account is not supported in Outlook for Windows due to the license provided by your work or school. Try to login with another account or go to Outlook on the web."
This is ridiculous that I'm able to add my personal Gmail, my personal Outlook email, but can't add my work account which my company pays money for. Now you want to charge us more by upgrading from basic to standard to able to use your new Outlook I see. I also noticed ads right in my Inbox in this new Outlook. Seriously? Ads too now? Well, it seems like you're very desperate lately dear Microsoft and using such enforcing brute tactics on us - users won't do good for you. It will have opposite effect in fact: Now I will tell my IT boss to switch to Google instead. And guess what? I won't be the only one doing this. You know what's your problem, Microsoft? You never listen and you never care about us. You just do what you want to do and it's all about squizzing money out of us while giving us worst products compared to other companies.
P.S. By the way, your new Outlook sucks and everything you give us lately sucks too.

I just ran into the same problem. This was working fine in the previous versions so I don't think the problem is on our end. The account I am trying to connect to is a valid outlook account. Let me knwo when you get this fixed. Thanks
Microsoft as always doing what it can best - ruining its own products. Seems like it's Outlook's turn this time. Such a big company and so incompetent with completely disregard for its users. Money and ads seems number one priority in Microsoft and it really shows in their deeds... Shameful.
Then why I was able to add this account and use it before? It just stopped working now and as I see, I'm not the only person now having this problem.
Same issue here, I think. Main account is using an M365 E5 which includes the licensing for Outlook. The second account I'm trying (and failing) to add is on an M365 Business Basic license and I think this is the problem. If the account was a free outlook.com account it would be fine, but as it's an M365 account it seems to throw the error as that M365 license doesn't include use of Outlook. Obviously the M365 E5 does, and the licensing is per-user, so I don't see why this is a problem.
Check the license type. The issue seems to be related to Exchange Online 1 licenses which don't include the "desktop apps". As per the above posts, this is silly, as you could ALWAYS in the past add Exchange Online 1 accounts to Outlook provided OUTLOOK was already licensed.
Some now seem to argue "yes, but Exhange Online 1 never included the right to use it with Outlook desktop". That doesn't seem to be true. Even Microsoft ITSELF states on the Exchange Online 1 product page Exchange Online – Hosted Email for Business (microsoft.com) that Exchange Online 1 supports "Outlook integration" with "offline access". Which is CLEARLY no longer possible. They absolutely didn't have their ducks in a row with this sudden change of policy.
They're going to face a LOT of backlash from Exchange Online 1 users.
