    I finally found something. I opened the email by double c;licking. Then clicked on the 3 dots at the far right side. Mine has an offer of

    "Open TakeNote". TakeNote brings up a box to write your note and stays with the email for future viewing. I don't know if this is a Microsoft product or something I happened to download ages ago. I also have MessageFiler, Send to OneNote, Viva Insights, Mark as read and Advanced actions in this same area. Hope this helps.

    @D A K thanks, this seems to be the first solution that really meets the requirement.

    However, it has some limitations;

    • It works only in the old desktop Outlook. The "New Outlook" does not have this function.
    • It works only if you use the full table view of the emails (Reading Pane either off or at the bottom). If you use the Reading Pane on the right, there is no possibility to edit the note even if you see the field in the emails' list.

    By the way, there is an alternative way to add this column:

    In the ribbon, select View toolbar. Then, in Arrangements group, click the button "Add columns". And of course "Allow in-cell editing" - still needed.

    Yes, it's absolutely crazy, the "edit message" feature only shows when you open an email in its own window, then collapse the ribbon then expand the "kebab" (three-dot) menu at the end of the ribbon [ie not the one within the message body, the one just below the windows titlebar].

    This function "edit message" is not in the help system, nor does it appear in the "all commands" menus in the customise ribbon.

    This is still not a "yellow sticker" feature but it will do. I wonder why MS don't seem to want to incorporate this oft requested feature?

    [image upload also fails for me.]

    I found it in the desktop version under 'Actions' in the ribbon. I couldn't get the screenshot to load here.

    Hi KerrieAnn, to put a NOTE on an email with details to assist in deciphering at quick glance what your follow up details are, simply *1) open the email and (2) click on the "Follow Up Red Flag" by right clicking the email or at the top on the ribbon, in the middle and then (3) select "Add Reminder" and a box will open up where you can (4) type a NOTE for yourself only on the line that says "Flag To". This will appear at the top of that email for you to view as you click on the email and will NOT show to any recipient should you forward that email. It is very helpful.

    I have uploaded 3 images (I cant make smaller for some reason):

    1- The flag and reminder

    2- the box that appears when you set the reminder/where to type your note

    3- How the NOTE appears in your inbox = you can see the note at the top for YOUR viewing only.

    Email me directly if you have any Qs ******@icloud.com

    Thanks
