You are clicking the 3 dots in the message section. Above that, and below "File", "Message", etc., you should find a Ribbon that has icons for trash, move, etc. At the end of that Ribbon line, you should see 3 more dots. This will lead to a drop-down list where you select "Actions", then "Edit Message".

This will allow you to make notes (and edits) directly in the email message, but not as you described in excel.

Here's to hoping a developer from Microsoft is reading this.

So in my research here and getting others advice, there are TWO ways to make yourself a note directly on your email...

    (1) On the top ribbon once you have double-clicked your email to OPEN it, click on the three little dots and then select Actions>Edit Message = this will allow you to make a note DIRECTLY @ the top of an email. Just be careful to remove your note when you got to forward the email!

    (2) While in your email, click on the red flag and select "Set a Reminder" and where it says "Flag To" - replace the word 'follow up' with your note... this will then appear at the TOP above your email when you are viewing from the pane - and ONLY you will see this (i.e. you can forward your email and no one will see it)

Read above in this forum for instructions :)

    Thanks everyone!!

Ok Thanks I didn't realize that it is not available on the newer desktop, but I can assure you that it would be visible to ONLY YOU - it is under your "Follow Up Flags" section and you are simply setting yourself a reminder and adding a note to that reminder - the recipient does NOT see your note**. I tested it by emailing it to myself and the note was NOT visible.** It is very effective to me as I just have to click on the email and see my note for follow up...

    Hi KerrieAnn Auclair

Thank you for reaching out to us.

I understand that you are having trouble adding a note to an email using Outlook. Let me help you with that.

First of all, may I know what is the version or product name of Outlook you are using? Is it Microsoft 365 Family/Personal or Business? You may refer to this link here for instructions. About Office: What version of Office am I using? - Microsoft Support

To add a note to an email in Outlook, you can use the Notes feature. Please note that this feature may not be available in older versions. Here are the steps:

    1. Open the email you want to add a note to.
    2. Click on the "Notes" button in the ribbon at the top of the screen.
    3. A new note window will open. Type your note in the body of the note.
    4. Click "Save & Close" to save the note.

If you are still having trouble adding a note to an email, please let me know and I will be happy to assist you further.

    Sincerely,
