Receiving email on alias but not able to send any emails - Outlook on the web?

Hey folks,

I've created a couple alias email addresses via Outlook itself (via https://account.live.com/names/Manage) but recently when I try sending an email from any of them it simply does not get sent? I can receive emails on those aliases.

This on Outlook in the browser (not the app), I select the alias I want to send from and it shows in my sent box but it never reaches the recipient. I've tired multiple different recipients and no it is not going to their spam either, double checked that. This used to work, are aliases just broken now? UGH!

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Unfortunately I can also report problems. Earlier I mentioned that my alias works again. It turned out to be only partially true.

Some recipients get the mails only in the spam folder. And some recipients even do not get any mail from my alias, the mails simply vanish. I don't find any pattern.

There is still something not yet working correctly when attempting to send from aliases.

Using just Outlook for the Web (tested first an E1 license and then an E3 licence) everything worked perfectly for me until a few weeks ago and now I can't set up sending messages from a new alias that an admin has assigned to my account.

It used to work as follows:

    1. compose a new message
    2. click on the From: address, select "Other email address..." and type in the alias that I wish to send from
    3. send the message
    4. subsequently, compose a message
    5. click on the From: address and select the alias that I used in step #2
    6. send the message

I can still successfully send messages from aliases that I have previously set up by using step #5.

However, when I try to set up a new one using the method described in #2 the only option I get now is to "Search directory" which returns my GAL profile entry, and results in my Primary email address being used as the sender's address.

Given that I already had a number of different aliases already set up in the From: selection to choose from, I decided to remove one using the 'X' beside it to see whether I could add it back in. Despite being able to do this previously, I can now no longer add back the address that had been working just fine.

There is one facet of sending from aliases that is, fortunately, still working...

If I receive an email into one of my aliases, when I reply the default behaviour of Outlook for the Web is to reply from the same alias.
(If this had also been broken, then I would be really angry - as it is, I am just seriously annoyed!)

Oh - I am sure that this also used to work for Shared Mailboxes - but now sending from an alias of a shared mailbox is also broken.
Oddly, when working from a Shared mailbox I can click away from the pop-up with "Search Directory" and it leaves the alias visible in the From: field (this is not the case for a regular licensed mailbox). However, when the email is received by the recipient, the sender's address has been changed back to the primary email address of the Shared Mailbox.

Now I've had a little rant and let you all know that I too am having problems with something that used to work perfectly, I will raise a ticket with Microsoft Support.

    Thank you.

    Very disappointed.
Making my job searching using my private domain very "hap hazzard" 😠

Indeed, everything seems to be back on track again. The DMARC flag is set to "pass", that means the email sent via an alias looks like as any other mail again.

I find it difficult to say thank you, Microsoft. It was a bug and it took so long to fix it.
