See also here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Outlook/comments/19dx64p/outlook_2013_windows_10_suddenly_not_accepting/Outlook gives me this: (startede yesterday)

I have 2 PC's with HOTMAIL accounts in Outlook 2016 ...

They both have this error.

I do get mails ... but I can´t send mails. Yesterday it did work for 1-2 hours ... but right now the error is there all the time :-(

Please help me.

I am wondering the same thing. Where did this guy come from accusing those of us who have been contributing to the thread from the beginning as "hijackers", calling for moderation of us who are providing feedback on relevant information being discussed and suggestions brought up by Microsoft themselves no less?

It is true the thread topic only specifically mentions Outlook 2016, but it quickly became known that the authentication prompt error problem is much more widespread affecting many other clients and devices from Thunderbird to 9Folders, from Windows desktops to iPhones. At this point it is hardly "hijacking" the thread discussing these other clients being identified simply because the thread topic in the early days of the issue, when less information was made known, only mentions Outlook 2016.

This thread became the main thread for discussion of this issue for all these clients and devices as referenced by Microsoft themselves.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/outlook-and-other-apps-are-unable-to-connect-to-outlook-com-f4202ebf-89c6-4a8a-bec3-3d60cf7deaef

It is my humble observation that the newcomer lacks standing and understanding from the last 40+ pages of discussion and the context in which things such as "New Outlook" are brought up and discussed and why.

While IMAP/SMTP is working much better for us at least with normal/basic password authentication using 2FA and app passwords under Thunderbird, Windows Live Mail, and Samsung Email clients, many still report issues. As Microsoft makes changes to one aspect of this, it may inadvertently affect another, such as I reported yesterday regarding extreme throttling taking place.

These issues are not necessarily isolated incidents and it is relevant to discuss them since it is difficult to determine just how interconnected experienced behaviours are as a result of changes being made to try and resolve this as we work towards a solution that works for everyone using email clients, MS or 3rd party, that conform to some sort of standard.

LOL why would I start a new account? I couldn't care less if you find my posts helpful or not. The problem has been totally solved for me as far as I can tell.

    Hi everyone,

    I started this thread 25. jan 2024 😎

In this thread I found Microsoft Agent Kathy A.: Outlook.com App Passwords not working on iPhone - Microsoft Community

Today I did this text in that thread to Kathy A.

    ************************************************************************************************

    Hi Kathy A.

Thanks for looking into this problem. It is incredibly much appreciated.

    You are saying:

"Yes, this is still ongoing known issue with the email set up of Outlook.com/Hotmail.com on any mailbox. However, app password is the workaround for this issue, and we would suggest you try to generate another app password for your Outlook on Apple Mail app."

But we still get the "windows" password popup.

I'm using Win11, Outlook 2016 plus and my Hotmail account. Everything is "up to date"!

    1. Please look into this thread I started jan 25. (+47 pages)

Outlook 2016 doesn't accept password or app password - Microsoft Community

    1. Please change this status from SOLVED - to WORK IN PROGRESS

Outlook and other apps are unable to connect to Outlook.com - Microsoft Support

The authentication problem occurred suddenly - so something has changed at Microsoft around this date (25. jan. 2024)

    Kind Regards

    Pierre

    ************************************************************************************************

We all in this thread are not gonna solve anything on this problem - if Microsoft are not "going back" to what the system setup was before 25. jan 2024.

Even not with a nice reg. fix ...

So - do YOU know anyone inside Microsoft?

    /Pierre

Thank you for your help bringing attention to this matter, Pierre. You may not have noticed, but Gabriel Bratton, another Microsoft Agent on this Answers forum, has been kindly active here with us working as a liaison with the Outlook Team, and posting updates periodically on your thread. That said, I agree with you that the Support incident report should not be marked RESOLVED.
