I have this problem - Outlook 2016 doesn't accept password or app password - and i think it is a growing World wide Microsoft problem :-(

See also here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Outlook/comments/19dx64p/outlook_2013_windows_10_suddenly_not_accepting/Outlook gives me this: (startede yesterday)

I have 2 PC's with HOTMAIL accounts in Outlook 2016 ...

They both have this error.

I do get mails ... but I can´t send mails. Yesterday it did work for 1-2 hours ... but right now the error is there all the time :-(

Please help me.

Thanks in advance

Pierre

Your observation is very consistent with mine. It seems in the last couple of days, the prompt happens when I switching from mobile to non-mobile data network, and between one network and another (happened when I enabled VPN and again when I disabled VPN). It seems like MS systems authenticates and grants permission weighing heavily on IP address, so if the device suddenly changes IP address/network, it would fail the new attempts, even if it was previously authorized on those networks. Given competing platform/email system handle the same situation gracefully, it suggest these are MS issues or possibly design flaws with their security protocols.

It is nice that you forwarded some information to the service team, but the initial issue is still marked as "fixed". Is there any information from the service team for us, for example an estimation or anything?

Second day without problems here, using office outlook 2013 and two exchange accounts (one with 2FA / app passwd and one without).

    Fingers crossed
