See also here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Outlook/comments/19dx64p/outlook_2013_windows_10_suddenly_not_accepting/Outlook gives me this: (startede yesterday)

I have 2 PC's with HOTMAIL accounts in Outlook 2016 ...

They both have this error.

I do get mails ... but I can´t send mails. Yesterday it did work for 1-2 hours ... but right now the error is there all the time :-(

Please help me.

Could it be that we are chasing a phantom error message ?

I made the following experience on 3 different clients, all showing these error messages from time to time:

    • Simply ignored this error message !
    • All messages, calendars, contacts are still sent, received and synchronized.

When ignoring it, it doesn't matter whether I click Cancel, OK or Close, all without re-entering the password.

What is your experience with simply ignoring the error message?

If this assumption were to be confirmed, it would of course be super easy to quickly release a client update with a bug fix that would make existing (and of course new) customers happy. ;)

I mentioned that earlier - until this morning, I'd get repeated password prompts with no interruption to receipt of emails. I learned to cancel the pop-ups.

I don't believe that the recent authentication issue is related to the behavior you describe regarding missing deleted items.

Using Outlook's webmail this is not an issue for me.

Using the Thunderbird e-mail client I do not have this issue but it can behave this way if not configured correctly. For the desired account under "Server Settings" -> "When I delete a message" make sure the setting "Move it to this folder" is enabled and the "Deleted" folder is selected.

Using Windows Live Mail and older versions of Outlook, the behavior you describe is unavoidable with IMAP, as far as I know, and has been an issue for some time. In this case you could try POP3.
