Using classic Outlook for Windows in business environments
It seems that the problem of being asked for authentication information many times has finally been resolved in my environment.

I have this problem - Outlook 2016 doesn't accept password or app password - and i think it is a growing World wide Microsoft problem :-(
See also here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Outlook/comments/19dx64p/outlook_2013_windows_10_suddenly_not_accepting/Outlook gives me this: (startede yesterday)
I have 2 PC's with HOTMAIL accounts in Outlook 2016 ...
They both have this error.
I do get mails ... but I can´t send mails. Yesterday it did work for 1-2 hours ... but right now the error is there all the time :-(
Please help me.
Thanks in advance
Pierre

thank you! I didn't know that OAuth2 could be used. Now you don't have to rely on app passwords.
Also, the problem of being asked for authentication information multiple times seems to have been resolved in my environment.
No problem.
Even though app passwords are now functioning, it's worth switching Outlook 2013 to OAuth2 in case this happens again.
I use Mailbird too and have the same problem. One workaround I found is:
Hoping for a resolution soon.
Customers of these email clients really should be asking their email client developers why they do not support OAuth2 on Outlook.com accounts. App passwords are a workaround for older email clients which never added OAuth2 support.
Hi all,
The Outlook.com service teams implemented changes in the service last night to help resolve the issue. Please test and check if you are connecting reliably again.
If you are using Outlook 2013 or Outlook 2016, please connect with an App Password. I am going to double check with the Outlook Team if those versions should support modern auth and will share back what I find out. From my current testing I am not seeing that work so it might just be in M365 Outlook.
If you are still not able to connect, please share what the app is and what connection settings you are using such as POP, IMAP, Exchange. Please make sure to test with an app password and not your regular password.
