I have this problem - Outlook 2016 doesn't accept password or app password - and i think it is a growing World wide Microsoft problem :-(

See also here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Outlook/comments/19dx64p/outlook_2013_windows_10_suddenly_not_accepting/Outlook gives me this: (startede yesterday)

I have 2 PC's with HOTMAIL accounts in Outlook 2016 ...

They both have this error.

I do get mails ... but I can´t send mails. Yesterday it did work for 1-2 hours ... but right now the error is there all the time :-(

Please help me.

Thanks in advance

Pierre

For those who use Microsoft clients (Outlook 20xx, Mail) that support MS Active Sync accounts: your problem could be solved with the following settings:

    Account type:

    First option: MS Active Sync
Second option (if the first one does not work): MS Exchange

    login: ******@outlook.com / ******@hotmail.com (your email address)
password: Microsoft account password (Application password could be OK too, at least, it works for me)
server: outlook.live.com (this is a most important part: this server still supports TLS 1.0, all other servers support only TLS 1.2)
domain: outlook.com / hotmail.com, depending on email address. Empty domain is OK too.
    SSL: Yes

I received now an update to OfficeMail Pro, went to my Outlook account, then "Verify account" (had to login again), and now it's working. It's syncing my e-mails and i can download attachments again.

Don't know if Microsoft solved the issue and this (the update) was just a coincidence, or if the guys from 9folders/re:work indeed managed to make it work again.

I think it is just coincidence, outlook.live.com is just a cname/alias for the same servers as all the others (like eas.outlook.com and outlook.office365.com). Encryption supported won't be any different, they all point to the same infrastructure (I'd be very surprised if anything still allowed TLS 1.0 at this point, even operating systems have disabled it).

It came back up around mid day so you probably tried after it was back up. Hopefully it stays up.
