Outlook 2016 doesn't accept password or app password

Can you add a comment to your Google ticket with link this thread here? Google is sometimes slow to respond but they are generally much better than Microsoft. This is a serious issue and would trigger losing of some Gmail users.

For me, I moved my Hotmail items to Gmail and I am about 90% done. Moving of calendar from Hotmail to Gmail did have a good benefit that while I am giving up a bit on privacy, I did get better use of Google Assistant/Home with more useful reminders.

With the upcoming crazy changes to Windows 11, I am going to move my computing needs from Windows as well.

The one seemingly silver lining to this cloud is that spam to the affected accounts has diminished dramatically.

Yeah... I now get fewer onmicrosoft and microsoft originated spams.

EAS under GMail started to having issues for my work account as well. Email sync at random, calendar and contact also don't think correctly. I am very sure this is a targeted effort to force people to use Outlook apps.

I ended up installing Outlook on my Android device to access my work data, but setup a containment field around Microsoft apps. I seal off Microsoft's access to data outside of the app. Tell you what, Outlook mobile apps are horrendous. Email looks ugly, calendar looks ugly, task look ugly. Very little can be done "at a glance" The only single benefit I see is joining Microsoft Teams meeting is a bit easier with a single click. I didn't realize Google's UI design is so much more advanced in terms of usability until I am forced to use mobile Outlook.

Can you give us a hint as to what you've used for your "containment field", please?

Sounds useful as a temporary method for accessing this data... :)

I added some sandboxing ability around Outlook for Android, in addition to disabling all of its permissions, so Outlook only manages and touches app-local data. I don't want to share too much because the MS folks on this thread will probably feed the information back to their developers that may lead to ways to circumvent these methods.

By the way, I saw another post saying Basic Auth will be disabled by 9/15/2024 for the personal accounts, so we are 3 months away. Either move all your data off Microsoft system, or starting getting alternative clients ready.
