See also here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Outlook/comments/19dx64p/outlook_2013_windows_10_suddenly_not_accepting/Outlook gives me this: (startede yesterday)

I have 2 PC's with HOTMAIL accounts in Outlook 2016 ...

They both have this error.

I do get mails ... but I can´t send mails. Yesterday it did work for 1-2 hours ... but right now the error is there all the time :-(

Please help me.

Thanks in advance

Pierre

MS is not going to fix this. If this is important to you, I'd suggest you move everything off Microsoft's ecosystem. Honestly, I have had more and more Microsoft issues, spanning from Windows, to Edge, to Office, to Outlook, to Teams...to Skype. MS is rushing to change everything and we, the customers, are their QA. It seems like I am constantly dealing with MS bugs.

    Gabriel,

    Thanks for your analysis!

I have been beating my head (figuratively) on my keyboard with this issue. I had one hotmail.com account, and one outlook.com account.

I got notice that my hotmail.com account was going away. the hotmail.com account was my "Microsoft Account", so I logically (in my eyes) decided I better make my outlook.com account my "Microsoft Account> Which I did.

Then, to my dismay I realized that my hotmail.com did not entirely go away, just the email portion.

Now, I have the hotmail.com and outlook.com battling over control of my "Microsoft Account". Great fun! I go back and forth with each of them wanting me log into live.com and validate my account. The 2 factor authentication flips back and forth for ownership of my phone number. More fun!

But your statement about hitting "update folder" to get access back to Microsoft Exchange sure worked for me. Its not ideal, but better than what I was dealing with!

    Thanks again!

When you add the account are you choosing "Manual setup or additional server types" Then selecting "Outlook.com or Exchange ActiveSync compatible service"? Entering in the Mail server as "outlook.office365.com" ? The type of account should then be Exchange ActiveSync, worked so far for me.

Give it time.... It will challenge you for credentials...again and again and again...

I verified now that EAS is working like a charm on Android also for consumer accounts (outlook.com paid or free) authenticated via Oauth (aka "modern authentication") - if I use for example the app "Samsung Email". The integeration with calendar and contacts apps is also working as expected.

So the problem is isolated to the Oauth implementation of the Gmail App. I contacted google via in-app-help and as a result, a support ticket was opened. I am curious whether I get an answer from a human who understands the problem ;-)
