I have this problem - Outlook 2016 doesn't accept password or app password - and i think it is a growing World wide Microsoft problem :-(

See also here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Outlook/comments/19dx64p/outlook_2013_windows_10_suddenly_not_accepting/Outlook gives me this: (startede yesterday)

I have 2 PC's with HOTMAIL accounts in Outlook 2016 ...

They both have this error.

I do get mails ... but I can´t send mails. Yesterday it did work for 1-2 hours ... but right now the error is there all the time :-(

Please help me.

Thanks in advance

Pierre

Life's just too short to waste ANY of it troubleshooting this Microsoft-caused mess they clearly have no intention of fixing. Nearly six weeks of this and there's no end in sight. They can have it. Switching to another provider and I'm done.

Is there a third-party forum we can setup to discuss alternatives? I value the feedback of commenters here but MS is already deleting some of our posts and it's probably better discuss elsewhere.

It's a conundrum why 1) MS hasn't fixed this yet and 2) not provided an update as to whether it will or will not be fixed, and what their findings are to date. This would go a long way to helping to appease their users.

MS is showing its obvious disdain for its customers. It's obvious they're not going to help -- in word or deed.

Prove us wrong Gabriel and David, please.

    Rob,

If the ask is to make basic auth an optimized experience again then I don't think that will happen. The Outlook Team will be deprecating it soon.

What I would like to do going forward is if there are any learnings about moving to OAuth to add them to the Known Issue article, Outlook and other apps are unable to connect to Outlook.com when using Basic authentication - Microsoft Support.

One key thing I will probably add is that when you add your account to an app, to make sure it connects with OAuth, make sure it prompts to sign in via the Outlook.com sign in dialog. If you or anyone else knows anything helpful like that please let me know and I will get it added.
