See also here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Outlook/comments/19dx64p/outlook_2013_windows_10_suddenly_not_accepting/Outlook gives me this: (startede yesterday)

I have 2 PC's with HOTMAIL accounts in Outlook 2016 ...

They both have this error.

I do get mails ... but I can´t send mails. Yesterday it did work for 1-2 hours ... but right now the error is there all the time :-(

Please help me.

Thanks in advance

Pierre

They might be using MS proprietary stuff, such as Outlook for Android, in which the settings cannot be changed or even determined for testing purposes... but yes they should know by now. It may be no coincidence that this occurred just as Microsoft is rolling out changes to the Outlook landscape.

It's fine if MS is making changes, but a heads-up and a how-to should be the least they do. Now, if this is some server failure or coding issue, understood, but post something somewhere, rather than leave us all wondering and suffering through this.

Agreed. The nature, spread and duration of the issue are extreme and surprising, and the absence of any notifications is an abdication of responsibility which in turn leaves many people changing settings or even deleting profiles. I'm guessing that it is either: Not as bad as we think even though there may be many of us here, or that it is a bigger issue than it even seems to us and the best they can do for the moment is limp along.

This problem is so widespread that every platform and every MS employee would have experienced it already. Of course, there is possibility that MS employee themselves do not use Hotmail, they know better :)

What is broken is IMAP connections. Most businesses use the new OAuth through an Exchange Server setting so the MS people are getting & sending email just as happy as can be. I found that the built in Windows 10 Mail program will allow me to connect that way, but OAuth is blocked for 3rd party apps fpr the free outlook.com emails. That is why, in my opinion, this is not a critical issue for them as it "only" breaks people who use the free version. For those that pay for Microsoft 365, you should be able to connect via OAuth - I know Mailbird can handle that.
