I have this problem - Outlook 2016 doesn't accept password or app password - and i think it is a growing World wide Microsoft problem :-(

See also here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Outlook/comments/19dx64p/outlook_2013_windows_10_suddenly_not_accepting/Outlook gives me this: (startede yesterday)

I have 2 PC's with HOTMAIL accounts in Outlook 2016 ...

They both have this error.

I do get mails ... but I can´t send mails. Yesterday it did work for 1-2 hours ... but right now the error is there all the time :-(

Please help me.

Thanks in advance

Pierre

This issue has been escalated to the Outlook Team and its being investigated. I posted a Known Issue to acknowledge the issue, Outlook and other apps are unable to connect to Outlook.com - Microsoft Support.

Thanks for escalating this. I have spent hours arguing with Microsoft support over the past few days and none of the support reps know anything about this. Is there a way to mark this with how many people they have frustrated with this? Are we sure they are even looking at that problem? They fixed the Teams Server issue within day, but that also hacked off all their large paying business customers. This one just hacks off the every day person and they may not care. It is ridiculous that they have not solved this yet.

    [EDIT] lost track of thread:

To yours and other people's points, while I was getting a ticket created for this on January 25 it was being treated as regular client side password or settings issue even though the symptoms precluded that. That being said I'm glad they created the ticket although I've not heard anything through it. The official status report may be the best we can get: as it it says that they will "update this topic" so keep watching that page. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/outlook-and-other-apps-are-unable-to-connect-to-outlook-com-f4202ebf-89c6-4a8a-bec3-3d60cf7deaef I'm also flagging it at down detector under Office 365 > Outlook. every few hours

There is also a link to the official status here at: Fixes or workarounds for recent issues in Outlook for PC > Outlook Known issues in January 2024 updates: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/fixes-or-workarounds-for-recent-issues-in-outlook-for-pc-ecf61305-f84f-4e13-bb73-95a214ac1230
