I have this problem - Outlook 2016 doesn't accept password or app password - and i think it is a growing World wide Microsoft problem :-(

See also here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Outlook/comments/19dx64p/outlook_2013_windows_10_suddenly_not_accepting/Outlook gives me this: (startede yesterday)

I have 2 PC's with HOTMAIL accounts in Outlook 2016 ...

They both have this error.

I do get mails ... but I can´t send mails. Yesterday it did work for 1-2 hours ... but right now the error is there all the time :-(

Please help me.

Thanks in advance

Pierre

Oh I didn't know that, I got now my favorites accounts inboxes in the order I wanted, thanks

One last thing, I don't get any notification sound when I receive a new email. In my Settings -> Notification & Actions I have "Outlook New" Banners and Sounds turned On, Focus Assist is off, I get only the new email notification banner, the banner also stays correctly in the Action Center pane until dismissed, but there is no sound when I get a new email, what can be the cause that?

UPDATE: Nevermind, I found the option in the General Settings -> Notify me About. I didn't notice that the Email tab can be expanded using the down arrow. The Play Sound option is off by default, after turning that on, is now playing the sound once a new email is received.

    Thanks

I did report it and feedback refers to several URLs including this one... as known issue.

We for sure do not want to cast anyone aside, and totally understand the frustration when mail is not syncing or things aren't working as expected. This is totally why I was recommending opening an in app support ticket from both the Mobile device as well as the Microsoft 365 Outlook client so that the support team can see the logs and see exactly how things are configured. Being able to see logs and details about config is going to be much more clear and concrete.

At one time Apple did default to using Basic Auth when connecting to Outlook.com/Hotmail.com, so if you had this account setup for a while it would continue to be setup that way. There isn't anything behind the scenes that they just change, it will require a user to remove and readd the account.

When you are within the Apple Mail app and Adding a New Account, you should select Outlook.com as the email provider. Then login with your username and password.
