I have this problem - Outlook 2016 doesn't accept password or app password - and i think it is a growing World wide Microsoft problem :-(

See also here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Outlook/comments/19dx64p/outlook_2013_windows_10_suddenly_not_accepting/Outlook gives me this: (startede yesterday)

I have 2 PC's with HOTMAIL accounts in Outlook 2016 ...

They both have this error.

I do get mails ... but I can´t send mails. Yesterday it did work for 1-2 hours ... but right now the error is there all the time :-(

Please help me.

Thanks in advance

Pierre

Today is the first day for me without any connection to EAS. I got prompts all day and was not able to get a single connection.

Still not solved and my questions are still not answered by Microsoft.

Don't have a computer to conduct any tests like many (thank you all) access to dos to identify server names to IP addresses. Have any regulars familiar with nslookup tried to enter the MS serve/smtp (IPA) email IP Address (v4) vice name when setting up their profile via control panel? Thanks.

    @Robdstef, @edreded,

    Thank you for the information.

I was unable to get OAuth2 to work in Thunderbird 102.15.1 for Microsoft Hotmail/Live accounts as something was wrong with the web page sign in screens closing prematurely, but after many hours spent working on this, I was finally able to get OAuth2 working for Hotmail/Live e-mail addresses using IMAP and SMTP in the latest release version 115.8.1.

    Image

It is interesting to note that it also appears that in this version the OAuth2 option is unavailable (for me) using smtp-mail.outlook.com, the server officially listed for SMTP at

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/office/pop-imap-and-smtp-settings-for-outlook-com-d088b986-291d-42b8-9564-9c414e2aa040

That said, changing the SMTP Server Name from smtp-mail.outlook.com to smtp.office365.com instead, for my old Hotmail and Live accounts, the OAuth2 option becomes available and seems to work.

It appears Microsoft needs to update the SMTP server listed, and provide better authentication method information, at

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/office/pop-imap-and-smtp-settings-for-outlook-com-d088b986-291d-42b8-9564-9c414e2aa040.

I hope my problems are finally over (for now) as this has markedly been a mess.

Yet another authentication error/couldn't sign on error. Numerous attempts before it accepted. Outlook.com account 9Folders using eas. So damn disappointing.
