I have this problem - Outlook 2016 doesn't accept password or app password - and i think it is a growing World wide Microsoft problem :-(

See also here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Outlook/comments/19dx64p/outlook_2013_windows_10_suddenly_not_accepting/Outlook gives me this: (startede yesterday)

I have 2 PC's with HOTMAIL accounts in Outlook 2016 ...

They both have this error.

I do get mails ... but I can´t send mails. Yesterday it did work for 1-2 hours ... but right now the error is there all the time :-(

Please help me.

Thanks in advance

Pierre

Issue it still ongoing. I had it almost go away but... and thing is on PC which did not connect to exchange after whole thing started and it should have all passwords stored shows same "ask for password loop" though one i entered it and it looked like it working was just next to it. So it more puzzling than just server side and issue is still ongoing as this morning. And the thing is Outlook does receive e-mails but still asked for passwords.

Me and the wife are having the same issue.

I use BlackBerry Hub on Android, started prompting at the start of the week. Managed to get it going using different server URLs for a short time, e.g. outlook.com, outlook.office365.com, hotmail.com, microsoft.com with varying degrees of success. Outlook.live.com seemed to work for a few hours then got the same error.

Wife just uses native iOS mail client and is also prompted for password.

Utter shambles, considering moving away from Microsoft for mail. Wasn't keen on Google but at least I wasn't stuck without mail on my phone for a week.

    Exchange

Interesting, our setups are somewhat similar (Win11/OL2019 : Win10/OL2021). Maybe that (more severe inability to connect) is related to the status indicator showing "disconnected" that I see when an account is configured as exchange.

In addition to the differences in behavior between different clients and email types there might also be differences in what different people experience, based on region (eg routing issue) or based on what servers the account data is stored on (server maintenance or recovery)...or something like that.

In any event the issue persists. Thanks for the details. I'm glad to know the issue is no in my gear.
