Outlook 2016 doesn't accept password or app password

I have this problem - Outlook 2016 doesn't accept password or app password - and i think it is a growing World wide Microsoft problem :-(

I have 2 PC's with HOTMAIL accounts in Outlook 2016 ...

They both have this error.

I do get mails ... but I can´t send mails. Yesterday it did work for 1-2 hours ... but right now the error is there all the time :-(

Please help me.

    I'm wondering if would help if we listed the email client, and sever setting (imap/smtp, eas, etc.) Maybe this would help to pinpoint where the focus should be. I'm using 9Folders with eas and have not had an issue since the supposed "resolution."

    I had a full day of peace yesterday - pop-ups recurring today. Still getting emails though.

    I'm using Gmail for android, using eas (exchange account) to a personal outlook.com address (which doesn't support modern auth, so using app password).

    Gmail app supports modern auth for outlook.com addresses if you use the second option.

    Unfortunately i've still got the issue. Enabled 2 step authentication but when trying to add my account back to office 2016 professional i'm still unable to log in, with both app password or my regular password. Windows credentials pops up and keeps asking to reenter but no success nop matter how many times until i cancel at which point it fails.

    Still happening for me. It was less frequent earlier but now back to what it was like before the issue was “resolved”
