I have this problem - Outlook 2016 doesn't accept password or app password - and i think it is a growing World wide Microsoft problem :-(

See also here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Outlook/comments/19dx64p/outlook_2013_windows_10_suddenly_not_accepting/Outlook gives me this: (startede yesterday)

I have 2 PC's with HOTMAIL accounts in Outlook 2016 ...

They both have this error.

I do get mails ... but I can´t send mails. Yesterday it did work for 1-2 hours ... but right now the error is there all the time :-(

Please help me.

Thanks in advance

Pierre

This is disturbing. If MS can't recognize this, who can? Of course was this typical "overseas support? "

Adding my support here, I've been down since January 26th. Microsoft support chat on my PAID account is USELESS and wasn't able to mention this ongoing active issue. Had to find it myself.

Only app on Android that will work is Microsoft Outlook and ToDo, and their office 365 suite.

Likewise, for me among MSO 2021 Pro (PC), Thunderbird (PC), Fair Email (Android), K-9Mail (Android) and Outlook (Android) only the Outlook Android client processes mail without obvious error, however it does not allow review or change of settings. It might just be ignoring the errors. There there is the different type of encryption elsewhere but changing that did not work for me and it cannot be done in many clients.

I know it's an "honest" mistake from Microsoft, but sure sounds like big brother

To you point the outage was probably not intentional but it may be revealing a proprietary grab of have been caused by back-end changes that are part of such a future grab.

Hard to believe it's taking so long to fix and no mention of it in the news.

True that. Report at Down detector under Microsoft 365 > Outlook?

Yes, switching Thunderbird to OAuth worked for me also. Nothing working on 9Folders for Android though.
