Outlook 2016 doesn't accept password or app password

On the subject of region, I recall that when this whole mess began, Thunderbird repeatedly threw an error about a time zone issue (unfortunately, I failed to screen grab it). I logged into my Hotmail account via outlook.live.com to confirm the time zone and it was set to an incorrect region. I would change it, but hours later, it would revert back to the incorrect zone and Thunderbird would again throw the error.

I'm just adding this info here in the hope that it might be useful for MS to finally fix this problem plaguing so many of its customers.

Regional or timing issues, but either way, an issue. Cannot get into either of my outlook.com accounts, 9Folders email client, eas server. Need to use desktop access only. While connection has been spotty for 6 weeks now, today is a complete loss of connectivity. Truly tough to carry on my business, without access on the go.

Outlook.com offers EAS connections with OAuth. The best example that I know is Apple Mail App.

A good reference is this topic that documented basic auth deprecation for Exchange Online (M365 tenants), Deprecation of Basic authentication in Exchange Online | Microsoft Learn. For those that have M365 tenants they already have to use OAuth for EAS.

To double check Apple Mail was EAS I was able to check Mobile Device connections in Outlook.com, Fix email sync issues or remove a device from your Outlook mailbox - Microsoft Support. I used the Edit option which showed EAS, but also Enable Logging also showed it in the logs, Mobile devices options on Outlook.com - Microsoft Support.

I'll share your feedback request for protocol table which support OAuth for Outlook.com. It would also be helpful if Outlook.com Mobile Device page would show the protocol that is connecting and if its OAuth or Basic Auth or if anything else.

My peers pointed out something that might be helpful. If you get prompted to sign in to Outlook.com when you add your account to an app then that is invoking OAuth/Modern Auth flow.

Technically 2013, 2016 and 2019 would not be untenable.

Drop a sync tool similar to what you would use for gsuite.
But I am not sure a 3rd party could write the plugin?

"Get a new office version" would not be such a big deal if

1. new version didn't have same issue as older ones
2. new version did not cost $600+
   They don't have upgrade versions anymore, so no discount there.
   Nor Ala Carte like they once had in the past.

The "New Outlook" unfortunately is just an update version of win10 Mail
Which unfortunately is kind of a web app.
There are many things it does not so.

It gets reads and sends email, it's fine for generic use.
Sadly it is just not capable of any work type use, if that entails anything beyond reading and writing emails.

It can't do automation, cannot do forms or app interactions.
Also seems incapable of things like encryption, cant accept certificates, can't connect o to database or datacenter.

Just generic email use, yea it is fine.

For what it's worth, i tried the O365 beta, but it seems it is in the same family as current
just a few builds ahead but same major version., so guessing office 2024 is a ways off yet.

Look I get it, what I'm saying is that if you want to vent your frustration and discuss about technologies is ok.

What I'm saying is that no amount o complaining or hitting on the MS people here will change the direction that MS has decided to take, they will not release a patch or an update for Outlook, this is not a bug its a "new feature" right?

It has to be a bug in some fashion because...
Even their newest available product has the issue.

I mean unless the intention is to do away with that product, but i cannot see that being intended?
I mean that would kind of shoot the MS Office thing right in the foot, Outlook and Excel are probably the two heaviest used products in that suite., so i have to think that something is not quite as planned?

On amusing side note, if you put in a product ticket, you may well be told that you can find information on this issue here, in this thread.
