I have 2 PC's with HOTMAIL accounts in Outlook 2016 ...

They both have this error.

    Hi David,

thanks a lot for your response and the clarification, really appreciated.

I hope this is really an indicator that eas supports oauth as I found several statements via Google that this could be a special agreement from microsoft with apple using this.

But if you are right I am happy.

Now to all the other community members out there: Is there any of you knowing a third party application using eas protocol with oauth? Or is there any app developer here knowing the basics of developing this?

Thanks again David for your response. 😃

    Frubbl -

    1. OAuth is supported for EAS on outlook.com. I can confirm that it does work, as this is what Apple uses when they setup a new sync with their Mail app on Mobile. While the service support OAuth, the particular client that you are using also needs to be able to authenticate using that form of modern auth. So it is likely that if you have an older version of a client it may not support OAuth.
    2. Yes as mention in #1, I can confirm that we support this and there are clients that are using it.
    3. In app support is what I would recommend for any particular issues.

I am really disappointed about the communication of Microsoft. No answers, no new infos. All is dead. At the moment, I have two things not being clearly communicated:

    1. EAS seems to be an obsolete protocol aswell as it has no oauth2 support. There is no statement from microsoft that this is true or not.
    2. Calendar Subscriptions (add internet Calendar) are not working for outlook.com Mail Accounts. I have added an internet calendar (ical) which should be updated every 3 hours according to Microsoft documentation. But in fact, its not. It works like an imported calendar file...There is no official statement from microsoft about this issue aswell.

And: With the outlook for android app I even cannot add a internet calendar.

I am a paying customer and are able to contact the support. I only got the answer that all is OK with my account, it has to be the provider of the internet calendar, so the third party.

So Support is useless, we will get no information and I cannot talk to a microsoft employee. The real bad thing is that I have swiched with my E-Mail Accounts to outlook.com because I thought that Microsoft is a long term business...turns out that this was the wrong decision.

    Again the following questions:

    1. Will there be a way for third party apps to access data via a OAUTH2 compatible protocol like EAS was/is for basic auth?
    2. Is EAS OAUTH2 compatible for consumer Accounts?
    3. Is there any way to contact a microsoft employee to help with technical questions (I do not mean the 1st level support since they really cannot help me).

By the way, the automatic translation system when contacting the support is a real disaster. Is there any way to speak to native english or german employees?

The only thing consistent about this issue is the inconsistency of the connection reliability. I've given up on Microsoft. I toyed with the idea of running Outlook for Android just for my MSA (Microsoft Accounts). But I noticed in order to get my contacts to show up in the phone dialer, I have to enable Contact syncs to device's Contact storage, which allowed a 2-way access. Similarly, Calendar is the same way. Unless you contain everything you do to within Outlook for Android, it's unavoidable to allow Outlook some 2-way access to the device's other information.

In the end, I decided to move 90% of data off Microsoft Accounts. I hate to say this, I rather let Google have my calendar and contact data than Microsoft. Google provides more values to me in exchange for similar access. Microsoft has demonstrated zero care for consumer privacy and the willingness to do whatever it takes to scrape user data. It's too much for me and I hope both EU and US governments would come in and slap them silly at some point in the future.

Such a random affair: two of my four exchange accounts stopped working this morning in Outlook 2013. The other two are fine. Bizarre!
