See also here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Outlook/comments/19dx64p/outlook_2013_windows_10_suddenly_not_accepting/Outlook gives me this: (startede yesterday)

I have 2 PC's with HOTMAIL accounts in Outlook 2016 ...

They both have this error.

I do get mails ... but I can´t send mails. Yesterday it did work for 1-2 hours ... but right now the error is there all the time :-(

Please help me.

Thanks in advance

Pierre

Thanks Dave - Gabriel provided similar input earlier this week while he was working with this discussion group. The iOS Exchange setup continuously fails (password error), and seems to be hanging up on the Automatic Reply option. But outlook.com seems to be stable. What's odd in the default setup for Exchange is that even if I try to use the auto settings it forces me into the manual setup, asking for the server name (eas.outlook.com). Once this gets sorted out I hope Microsoft will provide new setup instructions so that we (non-technical users) are comfortable that its working correctly.

Sorry about that! I accidently signed into my Personal Account.

You must be using Edge browser... it has a tendency to do that of auto login without confirming. Ironic that it's happening to a MS employee.

    1. Thunderbird - since you mentioned you communicated to them, I would assume you are a liaison role and if they need to figure out how to parse .pst format, it would need to go through someone like you. Anyways, if anyone else know how to reliably import .pst into Thunderbird, I would appreciate the feedback.
    2. As far as using auto-discovery to add an account is concerned, I am already doing that and we are still having this prompt issue. That said, from everything I read, there is a clear difference. Microsoft Exchange type allows full mailbox sync. EAS is/was intended for mobile devices, so it sync only recent items, to reduce the amount of data a mobile/lite device needs to store. All said and done, we need clear information from MS on which is which, so we can identify the best method for those of us want to better manage our own mailboxes.

If this month-long fiasco doesn't teach us any other lesson, it has taught us that we need a reliable way of storing local copy of our mailboxes.

Sorry about that! I accidently signed into my Personal Account. This is David Los and I will switch back after I respond here. As requested, if you can open up an in app support ticket from the M365 client that would be very helpful. From what I can tell you from the telemetry that we have and what we can see with the health of the service, I can say that moving to OAuth does indeed solve the major auth reprompts. That is not to say you personally are not getting something else going on, and having an in app support ticket will allow the support team to look at it.

For #1 - That would be a question you need to talk with Thunderbird about.

For #2 - When connecting to Outlook.com we recommend letting it autoconfig and not selecting different setting as it will ensure that you are getting things setup properly. I can't speak to the version you have been using (Outlook 2016) since I don't have them at my finger tips since they have ended mainstream support. Gabe who is in our support team might be able to speak more deeply on that. However, I do know with the latest versions of Outlook Desktop you can indeed adjust the sync/cache window.

Thanks. The fact my work Build 2308 / 16731 have issues just destroy the underline claim that we need to move to newer version of Outlook. I already deleted re-added on my mobile Outlook numerous times. I can't tell if you work for Microsoft since your account is not identified as such, but please help with the following questions if you know:

    1. Is there a tool to convert .pst to Thunderbird's email database format? I looked around and there doesn't appear to be a function to easily import .pst format. I am going to do a full move of all my data from Microsoft ecosystem and Thunderbird seem most trustworthy.
    2. Difference on local data storage for setting up as "Microsoft Exchange...." account type, versus "Outlook.com... " account type. I want to build a full OST to facilitate fast search and organization of my emails. None of the screen prompt clearly explain the difference. In general, "Outlook.com...." account type seems to only cache very little emails and calendar.

Thanks for the break out. Let me go line by line.

Mobile - Outlook for Android - This syncs with its own separate API and looking at service telemetry and broad experiences you should be experiencing things well here. Again I would remove and readd the account. Don't try to manually force a protocol just let it set itself up naturally and it should set the proper config and be mondern auth/OAuth.

Personal - Outlook 2013 - OAuth is not supported, and setting registry keys likely can cause other impacts. I would recommend not doing that for this client. If you continue to use this client, you will need to stick with Basic Auth and as mentioend you likely will see an increased level of auth promptness.

Work - 2308 / 16731 - This is our Semi Annual Channel and this should be working just fine and if autoconfigured be properly setup. Gabe likely can assist a bit more here, or better yet would likely be to open an in app support ticket so that the support team can check config for the account in the logs.

For the other clients that you listed, Thunderbird recently just made a chance with how they setup the client. I personally have been communicating with their engineering team and we have discussed changes that were needed in their autoconfig service. They rolled out recently. The instructions that were also in the known issue shows the steps if you want to manually config. I can confirm that I have also had issues previously but when switched to OAuth my experience has been solid.
