For some emails, yellow envelope started appearing in email icons in Outlook. What does it mean?

Starting this week, some emails (all of them are sent from internal domain) in Outlook shows yellow envelope icon. Opening and reading this email does not make this icon disappear. The only way to get rid of if it is to reply to the email, then the envelope is replaced with arrow.

Is this some new feature, bug or something is wrong iwth our Exchange server?

    No offence, but if 29 people have the same problem, on top of the companies of some of the commenters, the correct response is that "we don't know what the problem is and we are working to resolve it".

    We know we can reinstall the software, format the drive, change computers, or use other programs. But we don't want to do that...

    Just to add, that for me, it is doing it only for specific senders so far.

    Hi,

    other unread emails do not have such icon in Outlook, they only appear in bold.

    Yes, the envelope icon shows even though the email has been opened.

    This is not an issue of a single computer, it started for all computers in the company and for different Outlook verions.

    I too have been seeing this as of yesterday and started following this thread looking for an answer. I and my company have no connection to the original author of this post, but everyone is experiencing the same anomaly.

    We are experiencing this issue with out Office 2021 LTSR deployment since the March 2024 update, only on internal emails. Appears to be a bug, hopefully this issue gets some traction and MS fix it for next month's updates (or sooner if a workaround is found)

    This is happening for my company too, internal emails showing the orange envelope icon in Outlook for everyone. We are on Exchange 2016 and it's been happening since the March updates. Maybe caused by KB5036386?
