Why does Microsoft Outlook keep asking for Password

Why does Microsoft Outlook keeps constantly asking for Password. I even had to change my password thinking it would help. It didn't. Even after I enter password, still continues prompting me to enter password. Just does not go away. And it is also affecting my account with Spectrum Roadrunner to perform other functions that I was able to do without having to enter a password. This problem just recently started and Spectrum can't help since it's a Microsoft issue causing the problem. Tried to get help by calling Microsoft by using the recommended website since I'm unable to get a live person to talk to, but the website Microsoft is directing to go for HELP wants to charge a Fee plus a monthly fee. We purchased Microsoft. Didn't use to have this issue

Thanks for your reply. The issue I had about the "password" was resolved months ago. However, I haven't yet moved onto the new Outlook programme and am dreading having to start learning lots of new things. Why do they keep changing things!!

    Hello,

None of these suggested workarounds work. I've tried all and still prompted over and over again for my password. I cannot receive nor send any new emails. This is exasperating. Someone please help me fix this issue.

    Hi Michele,

The problem has been used by Microsoft migrating their email servers from the old IMAP servers to more secure authentication.

Microsoft sent emails out about a month ago about the change, without acknowledging the issues being reported.

There is guidance on which versions of email applications will work in the future. I run several outlook and hotmail accounts on MacBook, iPhone and Windows machines.

On my MacBook I had to delete each of my outlook and hotmail accounts in the "Internet Accounts" setup, where I had configured them years ago using the imap server addresses. I re-added them selecting "Microsoft Exchange" and entering the email account and password. Actually easier than the old imap addressing. I let them synchronise and all is good on my MacBook.

I had to do the same for one of my accounts on my iPhone.

On one of my Windows machines, the older one, I also had to delete and re-add one email account within the email application settings. In windows there was an additional option in setting up a new email account, "Outlook.com", which I selected.

My newer windows laptop was all good and didn't need any changes, probably because when I bought it I set it up in the new way anyway.

I will add that I have previously setup two step authentication for each of my accounts. I don't know if that is required for the new setup or not.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi Neil,

Thanks for responding. I have an older HP Pavilion running on Windows 10. I don't recall seeing the Microsoft email regarding the migration. At this point, I've removed the outlook app from my laptop and re-installed. When I bring up outlook now, nothing is in there. All my files are gone. When I try to send a test email to myself it cannot find an account. I try to add a new email account (which was my old outlook account) but getting error messages cannot connect to the server (even though WIFI connection is fine). Ugh. I am not very savvy when it comes to these things and am now at a loss on what to do.

Disable the Always prompt for login option: Open Outlook and navigate to File > Account Settings > Account Settings. Select your email account and click Change. Click More Settings, then navigate to the Security tab. Uncheck the box next to Always prompt for login credentials and click OK.

When you select change, there is not even a more settings option or a security tab, so maybe need to have this looked into the next update.

This is driving me made this issue, completely unusable software, and will not be renewing in January.

Microsoft - ever heard of the phrase 'If it's not broken - DON'T fix it!!!'
