Why does Microsoft Outlook keep asking for Password

Why does Microsoft Outlook keeps constantly asking for Password. I even had to change my password thinking it would help. It didn't. Even after I enter password, still continues prompting me to enter password. Just does not go away. And it is also affecting my account with Spectrum Roadrunner to perform other functions that I was able to do without having to enter a password. This problem just recently started and Spectrum can't help since it's a Microsoft issue causing the problem. Tried to get help by calling Microsoft by using the recommended website since I'm unable to get a live person to talk to, but the website Microsoft is directing to go for HELP wants to charge a Fee plus a monthly fee. We purchased Microsoft. Didn't use to have this issue

This is a pain for sure I thought as much a pact caused this as it was present on 2 different computers. I have downloaded the latest office patches.

    Deleted profile reinstalled outlook

Emptied registry key for this cache and rebooted 4 times and now finally its not prompting me every second this has been a very difficult issue.

I've worked as a systems engineer for 25 years the answer is a stock answer - I can only assume this latest patch fixed it

    thanks

I'm just and old retired guy running Windows 10 Home on an old Asus computer. So, take my comments with a grain of salt.

I had this same issue. I don't know why Microsoft keeps unnecessarily changing things during updates. It likely is unintentional, but t's quite frustrating. My solution was to disable the Microsoft Exchange Add-in. If you need the Add-in, this fix won't work for you.

I believe the password request is for a Microsoft Exchange password, which is different than my Microsoft password and I have no idea what it is. Unfortunately, there is not a "forgot password" link in the dialogue box that pops up to allow you to reset the password.

    Open Outlook

    Click on File

    Click on Manage Com Add-Ins

Under Microsoft Exchange Add-Ins, Click on Disable this Add-In

I tried this and it seems to have worked for me. I no longer get the request for a password and Outlook opens much faster.

I hope this helps others. If not, good luck getting a concise and helpful response from Microsoft Support. It's not that they don't want to help. They just don't work with the old versions of Windows, especially on older computers, and when there is a bug in an update, they don't experience the issue and consequently don't know how to fix it because they've never had to do so. I wish they would set up some legacy systems for some of their technical support to use full-time, so they would understand the issues.

As a side note to those of you that are getting frustrated with how your older computers keep getting slower, I have found that using Razer Cortex, which is free to download and use, really speeds up my computer. This is also good software for gamers. It takes a while to download, and it loads somewhat slowly in the background during startup. Once it loads though, you can select System Clean under the System Booster tab. I run this periodically and my computer is usually faster after doing so. Be patient the first time you use it. It might help to clean one set of files at a time, saving Backup Files until last.

I have been having this problem on three laptops, two Dells and an HP, all three running Windows 11 Pro or Home with older versions of Outlook and Office. They all started doing this recently. I get a pop-up, I put in my password, it pops up again, I close it out, then Outlook says it needs a password on the bottom right, I click on that, the pop-up comes again, I put in my password again, this time, Outlook connect, but I cannot close out the pop-up - I have to just move it out of sight or else it will disconnect again. Every once in a while, I will see that it is "Trying to Connect..." and will do the whole thing over again.

Like someone else said, I had this problem several years ago where it kept asking for my password and I think I was basically locked out for some time. I think it happened after an update. I did get an update recently on my main computer.

This time I have figured out a work-around, but it is painful and I really need Outlook to stay online. Last time, it resolved itself after several weeks. I am sure it is a Microsoft thing.
