How do I block all emails ending with @jean-patrique.co.uk. So annoying - keep receiving them every 10 minutes if not often. In 2 days - 300 emails. Did try to make a email rule, but doesnt help. Any ideas?

EDIT: 16/12/2023 - a bug with the blocked and safe senders and domains lists was preventing the procedure below from working between 12th and 16th December 2023. This has now been fixed.

There is an easier solution:

  1. Log into Outlook in either the web browser or the windows Outlook app;
  2. Click on the 'cog' symbol towards the top right;
  3. Click on "Email";
  4. Click on "Junk email";
  5. Under "Blocked senders and domains" click "+Add";
  6. Type "jean-patrique.co.uk";
  7. Press 'Enter';
  8. Click "Save" at the bottom of the list.

You can check it has saved the domain by starting to type it into the search bar on the right and it should appear even before you have typed it out in full.

This way it does not matter what combination of characters that the scumbag puts in front of the '@', the spam will get caught by this domain. Even better, unlike rules, which only apply to the inbox, this applies equally to junk email, which is where I presume this spam is going, and the result is to block it completely so you won't see it at all - not even in deleted or recoverable items. This is a positive change from previously, where I believe it just ensured that blocked senders and domains went into the junk folder.

This particular gambling-obsessed scumbag changes their domain every so often - they were ******@emails.fenwick.co.uk then ******@xixvodka.com then @monsoon.co.uk then @e.newscientist.com, so you will probably need to enter another domain if the deluge resumes under another guise.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

TE

    Hi,

    After posting yesterday 2 more arrived from that address name with some variation. Since then there hasn't been another yet. This removes the 10 - 40 or so spam mails each day so far. I'll see how things go. It's a little too soon to say this has been resolved. I'll post back sometime next week with an update regarding this.

    Spammers if you ever read this. Just imagine being you! " when i grow up i want to be a parasite, selfish greedy nuisance to the rest of the world ".

    Well done spammers everybody loathes you! Of all the things you could have done and been to contribute to this world. but instead your short sighted greed is all you care about. What a sad pathetic bunch of people you are..

    Hi all,

    Well that's good news that you've all had the same experience as me. If you wanted to play devil's advocate, I guess you could delete "jean-patrique.co.uk" from the blocked list and see if the emails come back!

    I suspect this will only ever be a temporary fix as this scammer changes their sender address periodically, but hopefully when that happens, we can just block the new domain.

    A further course of action you could take, especially if this method stops working in the future, is:

    1. Identify the sender IP address from the message header - in this case it's 85.121.***.*** (where *** and *** represent variable numbers)
    2. Use an IP lookup service e.g. https://stat.ripe.net/app/launchpad/ or https://dnschecker.org/ip-whois-lookup.php - in this case the IPs are registered to Urban Network Solutions SRL - ******@rnc.ro - and Stefan Lazar www.virtono.com - ******@07internet.ro - based in Romania.
    3. If they were to receive a flood of complaints (I suggest pasting the message headers into Notepad and attaching a .txt file, rather than forwarding the spam email) they might cut off the spam at source.

    You could use that process for any spammer, although of course it is more work, which is what Outlook should be doing.

    Cheers,

    TE
