How do I block all emails ending with @jean-patrique.co.uk. So annoying - keep receiving them every 10 minutes if not often. In 2 days - 300 emails. Did try to make a email rule, but doesnt help. Any ideas?

EDIT: 16/12/2023 - a bug with the blocked and safe senders and domains lists was preventing the procedure below from working between 12th and 16th December 2023. This has now been fixed.

There is an easier solution:

  1. Log into Outlook in either the web browser or the windows Outlook app;
  2. Click on the 'cog' symbol towards the top right;
  3. Click on "Email";
  4. Click on "Junk email";
  5. Under "Blocked senders and domains" click "+Add";
  6. Type "jean-patrique.co.uk";
  7. Press 'Enter';
  8. Click "Save" at the bottom of the list.

You can check it has saved the domain by starting to type it into the search bar on the right and it should appear even before you have typed it out in full.

This way it does not matter what combination of characters that the scumbag puts in front of the '@', the spam will get caught by this domain. Even better, unlike rules, which only apply to the inbox, this applies equally to junk email, which is where I presume this spam is going, and the result is to block it completely so you won't see it at all - not even in deleted or recoverable items. This is a positive change from previously, where I believe it just ensured that blocked senders and domains went into the junk folder.

This particular gambling-obsessed scumbag changes their domain every so often - they were ******@emails.fenwick.co.uk then ******@xixvodka.com then @monsoon.co.uk then @e.newscientist.com, so you will probably need to enter another domain if the deluge resumes under another guise.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

TE

    I'm sorry but that does not work, keep getting told new outlook does not support rules (im on windows 10 running office 14 )

    Tried the solution suggested, and several others... thanks everyone for trying. I cant seem to get back to the old version of outlook, that did support rules. All the optons are not available and the outlook.exe that used to run it is nolonger in my program files. Think microsoft may have removed it as part of the update....

    Thanks again

    Hi,

    Are you able to log into your account using outlook.live.com or the outlook app on windows where the options that have been discussed exist?

    Cheers,

    I did the same couple of weeks ago .. it did stop after 6-12h but today I did start to receive them again 🫣🫣🫣 emails are blocked, domain blocked .. what else can be done? 🙄

    Hi,

    When you are still receiving them, are they displaying like this?

    or like this?

    I am only receiving them when they look like the top one. I don't think the scammer is intending them to look like that and they are getting scrambled somehow, but this does cause them to bypass the filter. I have received fewer of these in 3 weeks than I was previously receiving in a day.

    Cheers,

    TE

    what was the ip address you found ?

    Hi,

    The IP always starts with 85.121.247. then another random number - the last 5 I have written down are 232, 26, 112, 157, 49.

    If you look any of these up it reveals these IPs are registered to an ISP called "Urban Network Solutions SRL" in Romania with an abuse contact email *** Email address is removed for privacy *** (abuse'at'rnc.ro). e.g. https://stat.ripe.net/app/launchpad/S1_85.121.247.49_C13C31C20C38C6C7C1C25C18C29C30C14C17C24C27C2C21C16C11C10 or https://dnschecker.org/ip-whois-lookup.php?query=85.121.247.49

    I've been sending them the message headers of the few emails I have received from this scumbag since I started blocking them (a few have got through where they have been sent with "jean-patrique.co.uk" in the sender name and no sender address, so the filter doesn't work because there is no sender domain to block). I haven't had a reply, but that in itself isn't unusual and doesn't mean they aren't doing something. From an email exchange I had with another ISP owner, ISPs will themselves have clients using specific IPs and those clients may in turn sub-let their IPs to other customers. An spammer could be a 'customer' or an outsider who has hacked a customer account. So there can be quite a chain to get through. I have had a couple of ISPs who have responded almost immediately stating they have blocked the offending IP, but they are the exception rather than the rule.

    I guess if enough people bombard this particular ISP with spam reports, then they are more likely to want to do something about it. If it is clear that they aren't doing anything, for example no responses and no change in levels of spam after a few months then it might be possible to report the ISP owner to RIPE (they register IPs to ISPs in Europe) or a government service such as *** Email address is removed for privacy *** (report'at'phishing.gov.uk), which is the UK one - there are the equivalent services in other countries.

    Cheers,

    TE

    I will wait and see what happens with mine, but it’s depressing to think that it might start up again.

    I will keep people informed, but if they do start up again, thenI can’t think of what else to do. Maybe get on the Microsoft live chat helpline if we can.

    Failing all else, I might just close my account and open a gmail one….but I don’t really want the hassle of having to inform all my contacts of a change.
