BlackBerry android devices or any Google device can't connect to outlook server

More and more I'm starting to feel bullied into downloading Outlook... Last week I put a wrong password in outlook.live and it asked me to reset my password after "too many wrong attempts". Fair enough, it was an old password, I haven't changed it in years because my MS account was only used via BBHub and XBox. Today it asked me again to reset my password after one wrong attempt and didn't allow me to go back to the old one. After reseting it I was greeted with a pop-up telling me to "get rid of passwords" by installing Outlook for android...

I fumbled around in the security options of my MS account and found no option for a two factor authentication with a simple SMS code, just install MS Authenticator or suck it up, so if anyone knows if it is possible to add 2FA via an SMS instead of an app it would be much appreciated.

I honestly feel this will backfire on Microsoft, big time. Bullying people into restricting themselves to your own ecosystem is not a very good policy because most will simply turn away and look for alternatives instead of jumping through hoops to keep using a product that no longer serves them... I think from now on my MS account will only serve to log into my XBox and that will be it, which is sad, really...

I am well aware. I wrote this in this very forum back in January -

I turned off notifications and I don't bother with the Outlook app except to keep Contacts and Calendars in sync on my phone for those 2 accounts."

I'd say most people in here know that already. I'm just hanging around to see if there is ever a real fix.

Not criticizing your solution (and I thank you for the information) but this is starting to feel like a clown move by Microsoft. Follow my reasoning for a second, if I understood correctly Microsoft is basically forcing everyone who wants to use hotmail with a third party app to install Outlook for Android in order to have a workaround. Sure, you can "turned off notifications and don't bother with the Outlook app" but why should you be forced to download an app you don't want? Keep in mind that every download on the PlayStore is accounted for and at this rate Outlook, which is now ranked 7th in the Productivity Apps ranking, will climb a few steps without people actually using it. Not to mention that although you can turn off notifications the thing is still running in the background, wasting processing power, memmory and battery.

Personally I started moving away from hotmail when, in another clown move, Microsoft capped storage to 15Gb, of which only 5Gb are actually useable. My hotmail address right now serves just to recieve a handfull of newsletters I didn't bother to update, everything I need on a daily basis has already been moved to GMail so for now I will simply remove it from BB Hub and check it every few days on the desktop, along with this thread. I think everyone in the same situation should do the same and start boycotting Microsoft. And if you do have to use this workaround, rate the Outlook App with one star and review it with a "was forced to donload this in order to solve syncing issues with a third party app". We are the clients, they work for us, not the other way around. If Microsoft can't deliver a useable product the competition certainly can.

Why is this taking so long to rectify, l read that microsoft had a team of e gineers working on the problem they have created, perhaps we need to bombard the support....

This totally a joke from Microsoft. It's unacceptable ... Could you move your tons of engineers to solve this issue ? That's a MS issue as several other apps have the same issue.
