cox has transferred their email to yahoo, now outlook will not accept the email account how do you connect

Hey there.

I am using Outlook 2010 that came with my Pro MSOffice Suite. There are a couple of things that can screw up your transition to Yahoo from Cox.net. It all has to do with Secure Logins and "spoofing" blocks at Yahooty.

1. You cannot login to Yahooty from a 3rd Party ONBOARD app like Outlook 2010 (or 2016) using your regular Yahoo account password. Just can't do it so stop fiddling with your settings. You must obtain an "App specific password" from Yahooty. The links to getting one are under your Account Security. It's easy. Open a browser sign it to your Yahoo (myname)@cox.net account and sniff about. Look for "Generate App Password".
2. Once you obtain the app specific password, copy it to a safe place. You may need it again.
3. Open your app, and get to the advanced setting where it lists all the good stuff like ports, and servers and such and replace your account password with the app specific password. Don't forget to have the app remember it. (that's the security bugaboo. Yahooty don't like apps that they didn't write remembering YOUR password.

You should be good to go EXCEPT for one more thing. In those App Advance Settings, you might have had a REPLY TO address. Make sure it is BLANK. Otherwise, Yahooty will NOT send your email. That's the anti-spoofing deal. You will get a bounce back with words to the effect of "ERROR 550 Unknown Mailbox" or some such junk. And by junk, you know the word I meant.

That should do it.

It's puzzling that this suggestion was successful to get one of my Cox/Yahoo email accounts up and running in Outlook, but it has yet to work for another. (I've followed all of the steps in the video posted by Jerwemy Moore's post and used the pop.mail rather than imap.mail suggested by Summerland Citizen as these procedures finally helped me connect to Outlook.)

Is there a possibility that the traffic is just too high on Yahoo due to the Cox transition and I need to be patient beyond the two days that I've been trying? The Outlook message says that it "times out" and to try again. Any ideas?

I followed the video and it seemed to work then did not. You must log into yahoo with cox.net email password go to security and "generate PASSWORD (When you login to yahoo remember the password you created when you first logged in and made up a new password) Once logged into yahoo Go to security and generate password for "outlook" . COPY the generated password. Go to outlook and enter all the stuff login name ******@cox.net set the xxxx.mail.yahoo.com on both incoming server and outgoing server make sure the ports are set correctly. Then login to outlook. It will ask for the password. This is the one generated and when it says to update do it! I was under the impression it was a one time password and did not save. It seems this generated is the pasword Outlook will use. DO keep your new password you made up to log into yahoo. YOU DO NOT NEED THE GENERATED PASSWORD.

NOW MY ONLY PROBLEM IS MOST ALL MAIL GOES TO THE YAHOO CREATED 'Bulk" mailbox and not my inbox. How do I solve this problem?

I cannot find any active filters in yahoo for my account there none in outlook.

If there were away to transfer mail (move) from bulk to inbox that might work It does not seem to. Also rules for inbox don't seem to work on the mail moved from "bulk" to inbox.
