cox has transferred their email to yahoo, now outlook will not accept the email account how do you connect

Hey there.

I am using Outlook 2010 that came with my Pro MSOffice Suite. There are a couple of things that can screw up your transition to Yahoo from Cox.net. It all has to do with Secure Logins and "spoofing" blocks at Yahooty.

1. You cannot login to Yahooty from a 3rd Party ONBOARD app like Outlook 2010 (or 2016) using your regular Yahoo account password. Just can't do it so stop fiddling with your settings. You must obtain an "App specific password" from Yahooty. The links to getting one are under your Account Security. It's easy. Open a browser sign it to your Yahoo (myname)@cox.net account and sniff about. Look for "Generate App Password".
2. Once you obtain the app specific password, copy it to a safe place. You may need it again.
3. Open your app, and get to the advanced setting where it lists all the good stuff like ports, and servers and such and replace your account password with the app specific password. Don't forget to have the app remember it. (that's the security bugaboo. Yahooty don't like apps that they didn't write remembering YOUR password.

You should be good to go EXCEPT for one more thing. In those App Advance Settings, you might have had a REPLY TO address. Make sure it is BLANK. Otherwise, Yahooty will NOT send your email. That's the anti-spoofing deal. You will get a bounce back with words to the effect of "ERROR 550 Unknown Mailbox" or some such junk. And by junk, you know the word I meant.

That should do it.

You have to redirect the server from Cox to pop.mail.yahoo.com. It's in the File/Account Settings/Server Settings. Just like you are setting up a new account using your Yahoo password from that email.

I just added cox to an outlook 2013, it can be done

Outlook 2019. Will the transition work with this version? Also, I've created the app password and copied it, but where do I paste it or type it in?
The only place for a password is the account password for my email account. I have 2 separate cox email accounts that I access using Outlook 2019. I've changed the server information to pop and smtp .mail.yahoo.com and the port for the pop. Other settings are the same. Where do I enter the app password, assuming that Outlook 2019>

If Yahoo Mail only connects with the new version of Outlook, it’s likely because newer versions of Outlook support more secure authentication protocols that Yahoo (and many other email services) require for added security. To connect your Yahoo Mail to the latest versions of Outlook:

Open Outlook and go to the File menu. Choose Add Account. Enter your Yahoo Mail address, and Outlook should guide you through the process, which typically involves entering your password and possibly a two-factor authentication code. If there are specific requirements or settings needed, Yahoo’s help documentation or Microsoft Outlook support can provide the detailed server settings (IMAP/SMTP) required.
