Outlook crashes when sending emails after Microsoft Update

Hi,

I had 2 updates today from Microsoft for Microsoft Office. I am using Windows 11.

"Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2016 - en-us" and "Microsoft 365 - en-us".

Versions for both are 16.0.17029.20028

This updated my Outlook client as well - I know this because it changed to a new menu bar. I changed this back to the classic outlook menu bar.

After this, my Outlook client crashes whenever I try to send an email.

I cannot revert to the new menu bar in case this is causing the issue as there is no option to do this.

I am still receiving emails.

    Your post and TomRDRX's post prompted me to do some testing as well. I also have Outlook hooked up to my personal Hotmail account and my work account. I confirm the same scenarios as you: can send just fine if using my work account but experience a crash when sending with the Hotmail address.

    Hopefully these consistent symptoms from multiple users will allow them to actually resolve this.

    Thanks! This worked for me with Office 2021, and I'll stick with the older version until Microsoft manages to roll out a fix.

    THANK YOU, HOLLY! This fixed my issue as well. I have the new version at work so I'm kind of used to it already but I have also learned to switch everything back to the classic ribbon; the simplified version is not as convenient.

    Hi all,

    I still repro the crash this morning even though the service change went through. I see some of you are using the workaround already. I'll post back when I have a status update.

    Workaround to revert to prior working build:

    1. Open a Command Prompt window (from Windows search box type Command Prompt, right click on Command Prompt and click Run as administrator)
    2. Paste the commands below into the Command Prompt window and press Enter after each:

    cd %programfiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun

    officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.16924.20124

    You may not need the product key. I was faced with this problem after re-installing Outlook to cure the email problem. It asked me for a product key to activate Oulook (and Office) but I remebered the last time I tried, the key wasn't accepted - it was for a 2016 version of Office (Home edition 2016). So I just signed-in using the email address I used when I originally installed Office. It solved the problem initially, but it has just recurred again!

    I only have the problem on my LT, not my PC ot iPhone. Best to save any lengthy emails to the Drafts folder BEFORE you hit Send, just in case!
