Outlook crashes when sending emails after Microsoft Update

Hi,

I had 2 updates today from Microsoft for Microsoft Office. I am using Windows 11.

"Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2016 - en-us" and "Microsoft 365 - en-us".

Versions for both are 16.0.17029.20028

This updated my Outlook client as well - I know this because it changed to a new menu bar. I changed this back to the classic outlook menu bar.

After this, my Outlook client crashes whenever I try to send an email.

I cannot revert to the new menu bar in case this is causing the issue as there is no option to do this.

I am still receiving emails.

There is a similar thread from earlier this year here: Outlook keeps crashing on email Send - Microsoft Community

If someone could kindly advise on this please. Thankyou.

    Hi all,

The Outlook Team just made a change from the service that will fix this issue. It may take up to four hours for it to be picked up in the client. If you have not seen the fix by then try restarting the Outlook client a couple times.

Also, this issue is permanently fixed starting in build 17029.20052.

    Similar issue here.

On Windows 10, after automatic update of Outlook (Office 2016) to version 16.0.17029.20028 recently, the Send Email will crash silently (sometimes with automatic restart) under the following condition:

    1. Sending with the Default Account continued to work. Can a) Select "New Email", b) enter recipient and text and Send without obvious problem.
    2. Sending with a non-default account by selecting it in the "From" list will immediately crash Outlook without notice (takes about 5 seconds). I cannot find any crash report in the eventvwr. I have 3 alternate accounts, all imap/pop, and it does not matter which one I select.

I repeat, only changing the Account in the "From" list will immediately crash the application, so no chance to even press a Send button later.

I tried restarting Outlook and Windows, did not resolve the problem.

I tried safe mode, which does not resolve the problem.

I tried a repair which did not resolve the problem.

Only reverting the Outlook (Office) version to  16.0.16924.20150
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun\OfficeC2RClient.exe" /update user updatetoversion=16.0.16924.20150

finally restored the previous version and the problem is resolved.

To run OfficeC2RClient I started a command line prompt in admin mode. Note that the utility did not give me any output whether it was successful or not. Only after a while (or may be restarting Outlook) the installation of the desired version started.

However I have to disable automatic updates (in the dialog "Office Account / Update Options") to avoid updating to the buggy version again, so this is not a good solution for long term.

    thank-you.

Is it possible to provide a refund for the Outlook 365 upgrade that I was forced to do?

This will be an annual cost and so may just do it for three years worth of fees.

What does this mean? What do I need to do to make it work again? This is significantly impacting my ability to work - as with many others! I can't continue to send all emails from my phone

    Mike,

I don't have any visibility to Billing. Please contact Office support from this page, Contact Us - Microsoft Support. You should be able to talk to the support team and explain the issue this way.
