Configuring preferences and options in Outlook.com
Passwords are finicky! I am just a normal user, like you, so I don't know your familiarity with computers and passwords. Here are some basic issues that can cause problems with passwords:
- Make sure that the Caps Lock is off.
- Passwords are case-sensitive. So, use capital letters only where required. For a computer, PASSWORD is not the same as Password.
- Make sure that you don't insert spaces where not needed. (And do insert spaces if needed.) For example, "Pass word" is not the same as "Password".
- If you can't get the Outlook app to open on your computer, you might try to use "Hotmail.com" in your internet browser. But it will require your email address and password, too.
- If all else fails, Microsoft usually includes a "Forgot Password?" button. If you click on that, it will try to help you change your password. That might help in your case. However, they may send you an email to verify your request to change your password.
- Your last resort is to call Microsoft Help directly.
